Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment when I received my cash transfer I was at home resting and I felt so grateful..The money meant a lot to me and my family as it gave me hope for a better life.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
One of biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving these payments is that I am now able to eat all the foods that I desired..For example, I am able to eat bread, meat, chicken and drink tea with sugar..In the past, I did not have this privilege as with the little money I had I only focused on buying the food that was cheap just so to satisfy our bodies.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
With my cash transfer to procure agricultural materials such as fertiliser and seeds..I bought 2 bags of fertilizer at a total price of $109 and I intend to apply in my maize field to increase growth rate. Then I bought food because I did not have enough in my house..I stay with my 2 grandchildren so I only bought 2 bags of maize and will be enough for whole family. Lastly, I saved part of the money to help in procuring other basic necessities such as soap and also when going to the maize mill.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
When I receive the money I will buy a goat, fertilizer and food. I will also use the money to fence my house because I easily get robbed because my house is unfenced.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am mostly happy when my grandchildren come over because their company distracts my loneliness. I am jovial with them around than when I am alone. I worry and miss my late husband.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
As you can see I am very old, and a widow. I don't have much support. I lack money to cater for my needs. My knees are busted, I barely walk far which means I can't go find casual work. I rely on my grandchildren's handouts sometimes when I completely run out of food in my house.
