Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was at home with my family when my relative came to me, smiling with happiness. Curious, I asked her why she was so joyful, and she told me that GiveDirectly had sent her money. Excited, I quickly grabbed my phone to check, and sure enough, I had also received $180 from GiveDirectly! I was overjoyed, and the first thing that came to my mind was to share the wonderful news with my entire family.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference since I started receiving cash transfers from GiveDirectly is the improvement in my grandchild’s health. Before receiving the transfer from GiveDirectly, my grandchild was sick and I couldn’t afford the necessary medical care. The money I used for his treatment made all the difference, allowing him to recover and regain his health. Without that money, it would have been impossible for me to get him the help he needed. I am deeply thankful to God and GiveDirectly for enabling me to care for him, as health is the most important thing.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon receiving the recent transfer from GiveDirectly, I was filled with happiness and gratitude. My grandchild was sick and helpless, and I didn’t have the money for medication. When I got the money, I immediately used $100 to take my grandchild to the hospital. Thankfully, he has since recovered, and I am so grateful to God and GiveDirectly for helping me care for someone I truly love. It was a difficult situation, and without the money, I wouldn’t have been able to take him to the hospital. I used $50 to buy household furniture, including plastic chairs and a table, which have improved the look of my home and made it more comfortable. The rest of the money went towards addressing our food needs because I didn’t want us to run out of food, especially after receiving such a blessing from GiveDirectly.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
For the transfers I plan to use KES 18000 to fence my compund and farm. This will help me keep livestock from my farm. For the second cash transfers I intend to purchase a plot where I intend to build a house for him and his family. I plan to use about KES 30000 of the transfer. For the third cash transfer, I intend to build a house for my son. I intend to use KES 45000 of the transfers on this.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiness over the past 6 months came from the rains that we received over the past two months. This has enabled me to plant tomatoes which greatly delights me.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Since I'm a window my biggest challenge currently is providing for my family. I only depend on casual work which I don't get enough money to provide for my family. This makes my life very difficult.
