Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was at home with my family when I received an unexpected message from GiveDirectly about a $180 transfer. The news surprised me, and I quickly shared it with my wife. My emotions were mixed; I had just lost a brother and was planning his funeral. While the cash transfer brought some happiness, it was overshadowed by the stress of our loss. I realized that this money could help ease some of the financial burden we faced, especially with funeral expenses. Despite my sorrow, I felt grateful for GiveDirectly’s support at such a crucial time.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Since I started receiving money from GiveDirectly, the biggest difference in my life has been the ability to give my brother a proper send-off. With the financial support, I was able to manage all the burial expenses efficiently and avoid the stress of debt. The funds allowed me to cover the mortuary costs and other necessary arrangements, ensuring that my brother received the respect he deserved. Additionally, with the help of family and friends, we were able to complete the funeral arrangements without dragging the family into unnecessary financial burdens. I am eternally grateful to GiveDirectly for providing the assistance that made this possible during such a challenging time.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I received $180 from GiveDirectly, I had just lost my brother. This support significantly changed my plans. I had wanted to build a kitchen to help my family during the rainy season, but I had to redirect all my funds toward my brother's burial. Thanks to the unconditional cash transfer, I was able to give my brother a send-off that I never thought possible. The money allowed me to take his body to the mortuary and cover the necessary burial expenses, ensuring he received the respect he deserved. Without this financial assistance, I would not have been able to afford these costs or provide him with a proper farewell. I am truly grateful for GiveDirectly's support during this difficult time.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
To safeguard my family's food from contamination and splash of water when it rains is to construct a small kitchen for them, so in that case I am planning to build a kitchen for my family. I am also planning to buy chain links to fence my compound because I have been facing a lot of challenges chasing neighbour livestock out of my compound when they invade to feed on my vegetables, that chain link will prevent them from getting in.i will use the remaining money to buy goats and cows for my family so that we can enjoy the previllege of fresh milk.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I was a notorious alcoholic addict, I was waking up early in the morning at around 5 Am to look for alcohol. I was working for alcohol leaving our family needs.iam now very happy because I am saved and alcohol is my enemy.I am not drinking alcohol any money and my family's needs is my business
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I am struggling financially to fend for my family because I do not have any source of income I only depend on my small kitchen garden which is not doing well because people tend to take vegetables on debts and fail to pay back.
