Alphan
received a $25 fourteenth payment.
"My life was good during the period of time my business was running and my hope is to restart this business again. I hope to save my subsequent transfers to use it for restarting the business. Right now I am farming but the proceeds from farming take longer to be seen so I hope I am able to meet a substantial amount to restart my business and provide for my family."

Maureen
received a $25 tenth payment.
"My goal is to first harvest the crops I planted and this will mean my family gets food and I may just end up with some surplus that I can sell for gain. I also aim on adding afew more animals such as chicken and goats and this is because I want to have something to remember this project by. I want that once the 5 years are done I can still see the proceeds from this transfers and animals stand as the best memorabilia to have and also they will earn me some money as they reproduce."

Sidi
received a $25 fourteenth payment.
"I never got a chance to go to school and I my opportunities to work are quite limited hence I mostly farm or sell food items to my fellow villagers. I however do not want my children to end up like me. I believe education can open alot of doors for them and since most are girls I would really love for them to at least get a secondary school education. I have been buying goats and chicken with the transfers and I hope to continue doing so until I am able to have a big number where I can sell them and ue the proceeds to pay school fees for my 6 school going children."

Hilda
received a $25 tenth payment.
"For a long time, I relied on my husband for everything, despite the fact that he does not have a stable job. He works casual construction jobs that are unpredictable and low-paying. Some days he can stay without a job, making it difficult to feed our children. To lessen his burden, I plan to buy more chickens every month until I have a fully operational poultry project in the coming year and beyond. It's easier for me to manage on my own and doesn't require much expertise. I've bought a few chickens so far and hope to buy more as time goes on. I can easily sell the chickens to fund my children's education as well as other financial obligations."

Mafabi
enrolled.
"I am a hair dresser and during this season is very hard to get customers for my kind of business because every person is trying to save the little money they have to sustain their families and find it so hard to get money for food. This is the most challenging part of my life because of my health I am not able to carry heavy things and do heavy work. I am diabetic."

Kenga
received a $25 tenth payment.
"In the coming years, I aim to repair the roof of my house. Currently, the house has a grass-thatched roof that has decayed over time, resulting in water leakage whenever it rains. I aim to replace it with a tin roof to ensure a safer and more comfortable living space for my family. The house consists of two rooms, so completing this project would require approximately 50 pieces of iron sheets. Due to my chest complications, I am unable to work and raise funds for the roof repair project. Therefore, I hope that the continued cash transfers will enable me to implement this plan and provide a secure shelter for my family."

Loyce
received a $25 tenth payment.
"My primary goal is to save for the education of my firstborn, who will be transitioning to junior high school in the next two years. Junior high school is more expensive than primary school, and I want to ensure that she does not face the risk of missing out on her education due to financial constraints. Given that the income my husband and I earn through casual jobs is insufficient to save for her education and that of her younger siblings, the cash transfers will play a crucial role in making this dream a reality. I am confident that with ongoing support, I will be able to save for her education and provide a brighter future for all my five children."

Kadzo
received a $25 tenth payment.
"My goal for the year is ensure my children are not out of school and I have a better house. We have a one roomed grass thatched house that is dilapidated due to the years of wearing out by wind and rains. Now I am planning to renew the grass thatch but I hope to eventually get a tin roof house which is much bigger with more rooms and in a better condition. I am yet to get an estimate but once we harvest and have food in place I will redirect the money we use for food for this construction project. My children are currently home as they were ent away from school I hope that with time I will also increase the amounts I sent to school to avoid such incidences in the future."

received a $381 second payment.
"The fact that GiveDirectly chose to send us money and allow us to do as we prioritize is the best thing that it has done for the people of this community. I have never come across such an organization before with well-structured criteria on how to select those who are eligible for the program and exclude those not eligible without causing any friction among the people of the community. Many of us benefited from the program and are very grateful; we have done so much in our lives that would have taken so much time to achieve. Even when we are having stories in the village, everyone feels satisfied and content, even those who did not qualify. They never feel shortchanged, like in most cases whenever there is something to be shared in the community."

received a $381 second payment.
"I've been married for two months now, and my first priority was to fill the house with comfortable furniture, including a bed. When I got the transfer, I already knew where I would get them for a negotiated price. I went there and paid $150, which served as a reminder of how I was changing from a senior bachelor to a responsible family man. Additionally, I recalled how, during the dry season, we would go great distances to gather water and that buying a water tank was not at all an option. I went to a hardware store and took out $100 to buy a 1,000-liter tank, and because it is now the rainy season, we will have plenty of water. Because of how highly regarded cows are in our town and how humiliating it might be to not have any at home, I felt compelled to purchase two cows at a cost of $150 each. As the man of the house, all of this made me feel satisfied, and my wife was unable to conceal her joy because it was so obvious on her face."
