Seera
received a $633 initial payment.
"I was working around home then I heard the message and to check it was mobile money. I felt so joyous because I couldn't believe I had got that money. My first thought was to talk to my husband who's in Kenya and tell him of the good news"

Joyce
received a $25 thirteenth payment.
"I have seen a great improvement in my earnings which has in turn improved my life. I used to make about $30 to $50 in profits from the grocery stall in a month when things went really well. Now with the shop I can make at least $100 monthly from the business. I am planning to inject my transfers and profits back into the business which I hope will in turn contribute to my doing more for my family especially my siblings who are still school going."

Patricia
received a $25 thirteenth payment.
"I got to buy a goat with my initial transfers and even chicken. My plan is to start animal farming as a source of income. I do not have a source of income currently and there are so many needs in the home I believe I should be able to help my parents in one way or another and hence my decision to venture into animal farming. At the moment I have 3 goats and 2 chicken which are a good start but I would like to grow in number and hence my investment on this will increase as the year progresses and as I continue to receive transfers."

Kadenge
received a $25 ninth payment.
"I live in a one roomed house with my three children and I and this has been a big challenge. The house is so small that it cannot comfortably accommodate us without having hiccups here and there. I had desired to build a bigger house, a two roomed house and this is how I got to the decision of using my transfers to get sheets of iron. I have a target of 22 sheets of Iron and I already have 16 sheets. The thing that has proven a challenge is getting the trees to build since the drought dried up most of our tree cover. I am however working towards raising funds to buy enough building poles and timber to help me construct my house."

Elias
received a $25 thirteenth payment.
"I do casual jobs as well as collect stick and tree stumps to make charcoal to sell. due to the reduced forest cover this has really gone down. I would like to increase my income by venturing into business. I would like to start a general items shop where I sell from food items to hygiene products, to toiletries and I want to achieve this through the transfers. If I am able to get animals through this transfers I will be able to increase their numbers and sell for cash which I can use to invest into this business."

Frida
received a $25 thirteenth payment.
"I am very excited for my business. I used to hawk pastries and this would earn me $0.5 to $1.5 in a day in profit and this was not sufficient in purchasing food for my family. I needed to find a way of increasing my income and starting the street food stall was the way to go. I now make between $2 to $3 which although still not sufficient is more that what I got before. I want to grow this business further through my transfers to ensure that I make a sufficient income to take care of my family and even educate my child."

Riziki
received a $25 thirteenth payment.
"I would wish to be self sufficient when it comes to food. My family relies heavily on food bought from stores because the drought had made our land unproductive. I have planted maize and I still am trying to add some more acres of land of maize so that I can have a bountiful harvest. My hope is once this maize is harvested I no longer use my transfers to buy food and instead use it to buy animals which will always multiply and I can sell them when I have a good number and direct those finances into buying land. This investments are to allow my children go through school once they do start attending school."

Salma
received a $25 thirteenth payment.
"As I earlier said I have a one year two months child who I plan to one day take to school. I however at the moment do not have a trade and my husband, who is the sole breadwinner herds animals which usually pays between $1 to $3 daily depending on who you are herding for and this is not sufficient. My plan is to build our own herd by buying goats and cows which he can herd alongside his work and we can sell once they grow in number to ensure my child gets an education."
