"I cannot express enough gratitude for the unconditional transfer I received from your organization. It has brought immense positive change to my life. With the first transfer, I immediately decided to convert my mud-walled house into a permanent block house. Not only will this serve as a lasting reminder of your generosity, but it will also provide better security for me and my family, offering protection from potential thieves. I invested $200 in building blocks, $150 for 15 bags of cement, and $50 for 12 tons of building sand. Currently, the construction is now underway. GiveDirectly has left an indelible mark of gratitude in my life. Additionally, I was able to use a portion of the transfer to pay my son's $50 college fees, which were crucial for him to be eligible to sit for his upcoming examinations. This financial support came at the perfect time, and I am relieved that my son can continue his education without any hindrances. With the remaining funds, I made sure to purchase enough food for my family. This has alleviated the burden of hunger and ensured that we have a stable source of nourishment. GiveDirectly has truly made a significant impact on our lives, and I will forever be grateful."

"After a long period of drought that paralyzed our farming activities in my region, I recently returned to subsistence farming. The weather recently improved, so I was able to plough and cultivate my entire acreage, and I am confident of a bountiful harvest. This will solve the problem of food scarcity in my household, and I will redirect my transfers to another project. I intend to build a new house because I do not own one. My house collapsed a few years ago, and my son offered me his house, where I have remained to this day. I would like to start purchasing at least two iron sheets per month. I intend to buy a total of 20 iron sheets before purchasing the remaining materials, such as building poles. So far, building a house is the primary goal I hope to achieve in the coming year and beyond."

"My primary goal for the coming year and beyond is to ensure that my five children do not drop out of school due to lack of funds. I was having difficulty paying their fees, so I was always late with my payments. As a result, my children were frequently expelled from school. They could stay for weeks because I could not afford the fees. Since I am now assured of receiving this money every month, I prioritize paying the fees on time in order to avoid having them expelled from school, which can have a negative impact on their academic performance."

"Lack of a stable source of income is the biggest challenge. I am an accountant by profession and graduated in 2019 but up until now I have not been able to secure a formal employment. I rely on motorcycle taxi business that earns $500 a day which I use to meet the basic needs of my children. I hardly save any amount for future use since it is not enough."

"In the coming year and beyond, I want to commit to purchasing goats and sheep and rearing them for economic gain. For those of us who do not have formal employment, owning livestock is a source of wealth. As a result of the transfer, I now have three goats and three sheep. Because they will multiply, I intend to exchange them for bulls in the future so that I can make a pair of oxen to help me plough my farm. I am a subsistence farmer, and it recently cost me a lot of money to prepare and plant my land. Having a pair of oxen will make land preparation easier and save you money on hiring."

"I have always wanted to build my own house, having lived in a friend’s house for so long. I could not afford to buy the necessary materials on my own, such as iron sheets. It was not until I started getting the transfer that I started saving money to help with the construction project. I have been buying iron sheets every month, and I now have ten of them. My goal is to purchase at least 15 pieces to begin the construction process. I do not have any other objectives apart from building the house. I will be at ease knowing I have my own good house to stay in and will not have to rely on friends for shelter."

"Due to the ongoing rains, my mud-walled house was leaning on one side, as they are susceptible to rainfall. Over the past few months, I hired someone to construct concrete pillars on the corners and reinforce the foundation of the walls. I am pleased with the progress as the structure now appears more stable. However, the work is not yet complete, as the foundation still needs attention. This is my priority until the end of the year. Once that is done, I plan to invest in more livestock to expand my two-cow herd. Specifically, I aim to start with chickens as they are more affordable and breed at a faster rate. Owning livestock will provide a stable source of wealth, and I can sell these animals to acquire funds for my needs."
