William
received a $524 second payment.
"As per now,my life has really changed. I used to sleep on a traditional matt that was infested with bedbugs that could bite me the whole night and could result to discomfort. I also used to suffer from back pain infections. Being a poor man, it has been a great challenge to afford good medical attention as a result of that. Now I sleep comfortably in a mattress with back pain no more. I was also living in a poor conditioned house, and this resulted to being a laughingstock amongst my kin. Now I have built a big house, I have gained personal dignity amongst my people. My home is also fenced and iron gate installed for security purpose."

James
received a $524 second payment.
"I could have not managed much without GiveDirectly. I used to live in a small house with tilted, weakened walls and leacky roof. This posed a lot of danger to my family as it could fall on us any time. My children are able to continue with their education smoothly, than when they could be sent back home for school fees, stayed home, missed lessons and even exams."

Johannes
received a $524 second payment.
"I would have not managed much without GiveDirectly. My business would have closed down due to lack of stock. We could be going without meals.I am too elderly to offer casual labor in sugarcane plantations as a source of income that needs physical energy."

Florence
received a $543 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that my daughter's business has expanded. My spouse passed on around 9 year ago and I could not take care of the family all alone. My daughter had to drop out of school so that we join hands to help feed the younger ones. Her tailoring business was not doing so well though, this means we still had to struggle to make ends meet. After the expansion of the business using GiveDirectly's transfers, we are now able to meet most of our basic and tertiary needs as she now makes more profits. I do not worry where the next meal will come from. Thanks to GiveDirectly."

Linner
received a $22 twelfth payment.
"In the next six months, I plan to save money for a child by continuing to save in a merry go round group. This is because he will be joining a secondary school next year. School fees will become a real and a huge expenditure in my family. That is why I have to plan for it over the next six months. My main aim is to use the cash I receive on savings to enable me to pay up when the time comes."
