"When I received my recent transfers, I restocked my business. I have been in the business of selling second-hand shoes. This has been ongoing since I received my first transfer. I decided to add more stock given that the business had been doing well. With the income earned, I will be able to pay schools my school fees with much ease."

Ruth
received a $533 second payment.
"Before I was living in squeezed five iron sheet house and when it rains I would sacrifice a certain corner for my children not to be soaked with water but when it was too much we had to outsource for shelter at my brother in law. This was a tough life since my children could get a respiratory attack due to exposure to cold. The biggest difference in my life is that I have been able to acquire a decent house which I have been longing for in my whole life. We are a happy family enjoying family time together because we are no longer exposed to cold nights."

"My goal is to expand my current shop to a bigger shop and stock more spare parts to generate more income. With the garages around I am able to sell more spare parts. This will help me to sustain my family from the revenue earned. I desire to ensure all my siblings finish school because that would have been the wish of my parents."

Elizabeth
received a $533 second payment.
"The biggest pain of a mother is when one can't be able to bear children. Previously I had a problem in my womb which needed medical attention and I was not able to access due to lack of finances. I must admit being the biggest trial I have faced in life as a woman. It costed me a lot including my marriage. I faced a lot of stigmatization from my in-laws who would abuse me and accuse of me of having aborted severally. They used to say nasty things that would hurt me. My mother in law lost respect for me to the extent of chasing me out of my matrimonial home and brought him another woman. He did not make any effort to support me and protect me from my in-laws' harassment and he did not oppose his mother's suggestion to be sent away. I lead a life of sadness and pain but what kept me going is the faith that one day my situation would change. It changed indeed after Give Directly came through. The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have been able to get proper medical attention courtesy of GiveDirectly's, now I am expectant and this has brought a lot of happiness to me and my spouse. Thanks to GiveDirectly."

The reason I started the second hand clothes business to help me raise money for my school fees."

Betty
received a $533 second payment.
"My life is different in that I now have a new and bigger house for the family. I never thought I could afford to build a new house for my family not until we received the GiveDirectly transfers. We have been able to bring this house to its completion and even bought furniture and other household goods. The house that we built is a three roomed timber house that is enough to give us comfort and decency as a family as well. We also have a dairy cow that will give us milk in the very near future. This will bring to an end the buying of milk that we have been going doing and enable us save some more money that can be channeled into other meaningful investments for the family."

Jedida
received a $533 second payment.
"My life is different in very many ways than it would have been in case I did not receive the GiveDirectly transfers. We now have a parcel of land that was made possible by the transfers and a new house for the family. Very often, we could only get enough money to sustain the family and meet other recurrent expenditures but we were unable to accumulate enough money to buy land. The dream of buying land was actualized when we met this buyer who was willing to get the payment in bits and we were confident to finish paying for it with GiveDirectly transfers. My family is generally happier than it has ever been and we are grateful for this."

Jeniffer
enrolled.
"I have six children, two of whom are in secondary school while three are in primary. One of those in secondary is a candidate for this year's Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination (KCSE). receiving this money means he will have a an ample time finishing his education. I am planning to use my first transfer to make an up front payment of his fees so he can concentrate on education. With the remaining amount, I intend to purchase a dairy cow which we will rely as a source of income for our household needs.
Upon receiving the second transfer, I am planning to buy a water generator so as to venture into advanced agribusiness. I am going to irrigate my farm and plant perennial crops that will give me returns almost thrice a year. "
