"As soon as I am done with the plastering of my new house, I will start saving these transfers so that I can install electricity in my house. The Government did quite well to bring down the installation charges to an affordable rate and I want to take advantage of it while it lasts. Other than just using the electricity for personal benefits, I will also make a business out of it by charging my neighbours' phones at a fee for an extra source of income."

Emily
received a $527 second payment.
"My life has turned out to be different in many ways. I now have maize of my own in the store and a maize plantation that I am yet to harvest. This has made me more self reliant and with plenty of food supply for my family. It has also seen me have more time with my family contrary to the days before when I could work for long hours in a day just to get enough money for food for my family."

Celestine
received a $527 second payment.
"GiveDirectly has earned me a lot of respect among my community members who used to perceive me as a lesser being. I bought two cows and one of them is soon calving. This gives me hope in that I shall no longer budget for milk anymore. I also intend to sell the surplus to the nearby hospital where ready market is available and use the money in paying school fees in the future. I bought a solar light system that has saved me from daily budget on paraffin and my children can study and do their homework without any fear of running out of fuel. The solar light is also clean unlike the tin lamp that I used before which produced a lot of smoke that was harmful to the eyes and respiratory system. I bought a mattress that has made my sleep comfortable and enjoyable. I usually have sweet dreams unlike before when I used to sleep on a hard mat. Thanks to GiveDirectly, I have a reason to smile again."

"My life is very different in terms of social and economic development. I am a provider of my household basic needs as I do my own business of motorcycle transport. I Bought two cows that I paid as dowry to legalize my marriage as dictated by our community culture. I bought chairs where we sit comfortably unlike before when we used to sit on the floor or go begging. I am no longer the gossip of our village that had northing of worth."
