Karisa
received a $525 second payment.
"My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfer because I would not have added more bulls due to lack of money. As a farmer, I feel relieved because I had dairy cows before the transfer but now after adding the bulls I know the number of cattle will increase with time. I have already started using the bulls in ploughing my farm. Though they are not strong enough to handle the task but I know that in the next season they will have gotten used to doing the work. I will be using them in ploughing other people's farm in order to earn more money."

"In the next six months, I expect my life to change in that I shall have started my shoe selling business which will enable me to relax and think about other possible investments for the family. When the business shall have picked then I can save up the money and be able to buy my own piece of land in the next six months or more."

Joan
received a $23 sixteenth payment.
"I expect that in the next six months, we will have cleared all the school balance that both our children owe their respective schools so that we can start saving for other projects. We are planning to move out of my in-law's compound into our own home early next year and we would wish to start buying the necessary house construction materials as early as we can which I hope will commence in the next six months."

received a $23 sixteenth payment.
"My plan is to expand the chicken project I am currently running by bringing in quality breeds of chicken for better products which will result in more income. I expect that in six months from now, I will have saved enough money to allow me to venture into rabbit keeping which is something I have always wanted to do so that I can quit relying on casual unreliable jobs and be self-employed."

"
We live in a house that is in a poor condition. The walls are badly damaged and the roof is leaking, making it unbearable during rainy seasons. I also fear for our safety and I am afraid that it might collapse while we are asleep. To curb the situation, I have always desired to build a new hut that would temporarily serve the purpose. However, I have not been able to achieve it because of insufficient funds. I have now changed my plans and I will construct a permanent house, that will save me the agony of replacing grass every four months which is quite expensive. In addition to this, I will seek treatment to ease the constant chest pains that I have been experiencing for the past one year as a result of engaging in very heavy casual jobs. I will also purchase goats for rearing in order to create a stable source of income for my family."

"For several years now, I have been suffering from a heart problem, a condition I haven't been able to cure due to financial constraints. Receiving this money, therefore, means I will be able to get the required medical attention. Currently, I am unable to engage in any meaningful economic activity due to poor health. Once am treated, I will be in a position to assist my husband in raising healthy and educated children. I have been a burden to him for far too long, thankfully, no situation is permanent. For the remaining part of the transfers, am going to put up a kiosk business within the village. That way, I will be able to contribute positively to the family's economical growth."

Safari
received a $525 second payment.
"My life is different than it would have been if I would never receive the transfer in that, I could have never bought a motorcycle. This means that I would forever depend on business which had its ups and downs and the main issue was it state since it was almost collapsing. I am glad that Give Directly gave me the means to change my life by enabling me to purchase a motorcycle. I have started using it in ferrying people around and I can say that it is more profitable than the business that I used to do. I am happy that I am able to save even after paying school fees and meeting our daily needs such as buying food"

"Being a sole bread winner in a family is something that can make a woman to venture into businesses that are risky and male dominated. My husband's health condition can not allow him to do tedious jobs, a situation that has rendered me as the only option to work for the family. I am forced to sell palm wine in order to provide food and other basic needs yet the income from this business is only two hundred shillings per day. Receiving this money means starting livestock rearing, repairing my house and supporting my children's education. I also plan to start a hotel in order to have a reliable source of income."
