"Lack of adequate resources has been the biggest hardship in life. In total, we are a family of thirty and on a normal day, we consume more than eight kilograms of flour, of which our annual maize yield cannot sustain. Thus we are forced to purchase from shops, something that is costly considering our husband does not have any job. We survive through casual jobs, which are hard to come by. As a result of this, our children have dropped out of school, and some have entered into early marriages due to frustration. We feel relieved now that a household that had turned into a laughing stock, is going to be close to half a million richer in the next two months or so."

"In a household like mine where the man has no reliable source of income, basic needs provision is always a big challenge. I am just a house wife and my husband is doing casual labour, a job that earns him only one thousand shillings per week. His earnings are never enough to sustain our family needs and this has forced me to venture into casual jobs like clearing land for neighbors for fee in order to supplement the little income from my husband. Receiving this money means changing my life for the better. I plan to start a shop business in order to have a reliable source of income and the remaining amount will help me to start livestock rearing."

"Raising children as single parent is very challenging to me when I consider my gender and job status in our village. My husband divorced me nine years ago and I was forced to return to my maternal home with my children. Since there was nobody to assist providing my family's needs, I opted to start my own hotel business at Kidemu center. This business has not been reliable due to insufficient capital. Receiving this money means expanding my business in order to make it stable. I also plan to construct a good house for myself and the remaining amount will support my children's education."

"The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is lack of enough money to pay for our children's school fees. Apparently both me and my husband are jobless and there is limited land for agriculture which is an alternative source of our income."

"The biggest hardship I have faced is lack of enough land to practice agriculture. This is because there is no money to buy or hire land to practice agriculture which highly generates income."

"It's a great chance to receive Givedirectly transfers because I will spend this money for purchasing cows. Ever since I separated with my spouse, have been struggle to get money for buying cows to rear as a source of income but all in vain. These cows are going to be my family's assets and I will sell them to raise money for buying a plot where I can build my home in future."

"It has always been my desire to live in a more spacious and comfortable house, but for the years that I've been married here, that has never happened due to lack of resources. The little money that my husband earns from his casual job is not even enough to feed the family, I live each day with the worry of where the next meal will come from. Therefore, once I receive the transfers, I will build a two bedroom house. The one we are currently living in is in a deplorable condition; it is tiny with the roof leaking already. It is even worse during this rainy season, my children are subjected to cold and pneumonia. In addition, I will invest in maize farming. To achieve this, I will purchase an ox-plow and oxen to assist in timely planting. This way, my children will be assured of enough food in the store. And that is what receiving this money means to me."

"My expectation in the near future is to ensure that I invest more so that I will be able to educate my children in even better schools. If possible, cater for their school fees comfortably even when they join college. I am hopeful that I will never disappoint them as a parent by not having enough resources for them for their education."
