"Receiving this money means that my living standards will greatly improve in that i plan to buy two dairy cattle since cattle rearing is favourable in our locality and the returns are higher compared to crop farming. I will then use the remaining part of my transfer to buy some sheep for rearing so that in future i can sell them when they multiply to pay school fees for my brothers who will soon join high school."

"Now that it is a rainy season, my children and I have not had a comfortable sleep in a long time due to a leaking roof. With no money to purchase a bed and good sleeping materials, we have had to brace the cold nights in which we some times wake up to a pool of water inside the house. My big worry has always been the fear of contracting diseases predisposed by such extremes. "

"Maize farming is considered an important source of income and food by our people. Being an ASAL area, climatic conditions often take a toll on these produce. When maize wither, most farmers starve and their children drop out of school due to lack of alternative sources of income. We experience such a season every year. Since I dropped out of school, I do not have any skills to earn me decent employment as a source of income. Therefore I have to strain whenever I get casual job opportunities so as to save for the famine season. "
