"For a long time, I have earned my family a livelihood through motorcycle taxi operation. However I am just an employee and with a passionate desire to operate one of own. During this time I have managed to make a few savings and receiving this money will put me in a position to purchase a brand new motorcycle for taxi business. Proceeds from this business will become a constant source of income to contribute towards a village SACCO of which I am a member. "

"My dream is to start a business of supplying cooking oil in my area. This is because I have noticed quite a rise in numbers of women who engage in catering business. With this I will earn some income and cater for my basic needs of food and water with much ease. Lastly, I plan to buy indigenous goats that will act as a buffer whenever I need financial resources. I opted for goats because they are drought resistant and more marketable compared to cows."

"Financial constraints has been a great challenge in my family. We have four children in school who need our educational support. We have ended up selling all our livestock to cater for their education and we are even worried on where to get school fees for next year, special regards to GD for God has used them to make a way for us"

"Crop pests and diseases has been a great challenge to us as a family. We no longer depend on farming like initially when it was our source of income after harvesting and selling the yields. Due to this, we have ended up struggling alot in terms of meeting our family needs. This is the biggest hardship we face"

"My education journey has been a tough one thats why it is the biggest hardship that I have faced in my life. After completing my A level studies I was admitted to a teachers training college in 1989 but I did not complete my studies.I deferred my studies because I was undergoing treatment due to injuries inflicted to me by my brother. My brother came home drunk and after an argument he hacked my shoulder with a machete.I went back to college after recovering only to be informed that my vacancy had been taken by someone else.I came back home in 1991 and started teaching neighbouring schools as an untrained teacher.I then decided to go to a theological college in 2006 which I did not complete due to lack of money.By this time my children had started going to school and they also needed school fees.I had to forego my studies.I became the laughing stock of the village since I was bright but ended up not completing my college education.I am now a pastor at my local church. My children are often mocked that they will end up like me.This is the reason I am now struggling to ensure that my children advance as much as possible in their education."

"Currently, my life is different from how it was in that, I have been able to take care of my needs easily. Like recently, I managed to buy body oil and pay tithe in church. Before the transfer, It was a struggle because I have been depending on my husband for financial support and meeting some of the needs was difficult because the money could not be enough most of the time. I am also glad that I am focused on saving money. My ultimate goal is to open a cosmetic shop so as to get income out of it"

"I was facing a lot of pressure from my landlord for some time because raising my rent from my little income was difficult. We were in constant quarrels but now life is different because I have been loyal in paying my rent on time unlike before. Had it not been GiveDirectly coming to us, then I would be still in trouble with the landlord over rent payment."

"My dream has been to complete a course that I had begun earlier so that I would get skills that fit me to the current job market. However, I had to be discontinued since I could not raise my college fees adequately. My life is now different in that ever since I began receiving my monthly transfer, I decided to save at least KSH 4000 every month to enable me to raise the fees, which up to now I have saved a considerable amount. I am assured that as GiveDirectly sends the transfer, I will save more to resume my studies."
