"In the next six months, my life will have changed in that my poultry keeping project will have grown. I am also optimistic that I will have taken a loan towards achieving my dream of owning a piece of land. I will be using the income from this project to repay the loan. Very soon, I will have forgotten about looking for formal jobs and instead employ people from my village."

"The desire of owning a reliable source of income is almost to materialize with the arrival of GiveDirectly in our village. Currently, the construction of a 13 roomed rental house in Mombasa town has halted with 5 rooms yet to be completed. due to the inadequate construction resources. Receiving this money means completing at least 2 rooms from the contribution of 500 dollars towards this project from each of us since we are a polygamous family. This will give us a return of approximately 25 dollars per month hence, this will change our life for the better."

"Receiving this money means buying a cow for milking that will in turn save me the cost of ksh 60 that I usually spend in buying 2 litres of milk daily for family consumption. This means i will be able to save the money i usually use buying milk then invest it in opening a small groceries business shop for my wife latter. The remaining part of the transfer will enable us to build a more spacious two roomed iron roofed house so that we can use the hut we live in as a kitchen hence upgrading our living standards"

"Doing casual jobs in people's farms is what we depend on in order to earn a source of living in this family. My work entails looking for jobs in people's farms such as tilling and weeding which earns me a total of 1USD by the end of the day whenever i am lucky to get one. My spouse on the other hand has been employed to operate a powersaw and goes around cutting down trees to produce timber whenever he is called upon which earns him close to 2 USD on a typical day. Both our jobs are so tedious and unreliable hence providing basic needs for our three child is an uphill task which is the biggest hardship we face"

"My dream has always been to build another house.A bigger one with an iron roof.My current house is small and grass thatched. It leaks during the rainy season.I have never owned a house with an iron roof and I am happy that Give Directly will make this happen. The house will cost me not less than Ksh 40,000(400 USD).My second plan is buying a dairy cow.I have one cow that produces 2 litres a day.My target is boosting this to 7 litres a day by buying a more improved breed. The cost of 1 litre of milk is Ksh 30.With Ksh 210 a day I will be able to buy food without struggling much. "I live in our ancestral land and recently every child was given his share.I now have to shift my house and this will definitely come with expenses.I have to build another house(one bedroom and more spacious) and a kitchen. This will cost me approximately Ksh 35,000(350 USD).Next,I will buy a dairy cow(250 USD).This will boost my income since I have only one cow and sometimes when I am not selling milk I am forced to strain a lot in getting the basic needs.I am also a business man.I buy chicken from the village at a lower price then sell during market days at a profit.I will use part of the money to boost this business."
