Alice
received a $542 initial payment.
"I mainly depend on farming for our survival like other people in my region. Due to unpredictable weather conditions and crop pests, crop farming is no longer reliable hence many people have opted to dairy farming. When I received my first transfer, I bought a dairy cow worth KES 38000. I am now glad since I will be selling milk and use the money to cater for our needs. Being able to expand my dairy project makes my life different from how it was before because the income from this project will increase."

Beldina
received a $22 twenty-first payment.
"After plastering the floor, I believe that I will now be able to paint the walls. I have a plan of saving the transfers for the next six months to ensure this goal is met. Once the walls have been painted and the floor is well plastered, I am sure to rest for more than two years without thinking of building another house of repairing it. This will give me peace of mind to focus on doing other things."

Sidi
received a $542 initial payment.
"I have practised livestock keeping as a casual labourer in my neighbour's farm for long. I am happy that this gave me knowledge of livestock farming as well as earning a living. I built the desire of starting livestock farming but couldn't due to limited resources. When I received my first transfer, I purchased two cows and six goats through cash transfer. I am glad that my desires have been met since I have added animals to my cowshed. Had it not been for the financial help from GiveDirectly, then it would have taken many years to acquire them. I will be selling them in case of a financial emergency as well as raising more money to finance my children's education through milk sales."

Kabeyu
received a $542 initial payment.
"The major difference in my daily life is that I now own a pair of oxen which I acquired after I received my first transfer. Owning them has been my long-time dream but I could not afford it since the salary was getting from the casual jobs was too little. It was not enough even to cater for my family's basic needs. I didn't hesitate to buy the oxen after receiving the transfers because I know they will help me with my farming activities and earn more income by hiring it to my neighbors. I am now planning to practice large scale farming since it will be easier to prepare the farm with the help of the bulls. I will plant different crops for my family use and commercials purposes. I will now focus and invest more in agriculture. I believe my life will greatly change since from the sale of the crops I will be able to easily meet my family needs."

Kadzo
received a $542 initial payment.
"I was awoken by a loud vibration from my mobile phone and I immediately asked my helper to confirm who might have sent a message at such an hour. Upon checking, she realized it was a Mpesa message confirming that I had received money from GiveDirectly. I was overexcited because at first, I thought it was a scam from the experience I had from the previous NGOs."
