"I expect to get a bumper harvest this season. This gives me hope of having enough food for the year and also have enough bags left to sell. I also expect to have planted more beans in a small piece of land that I leased from a neighbor. Proceeds from all these will help me improve myself by doing more projects and plan for a better future."

"I do not expect any change yet because I am in the process of achieving my goal of buying a piece of land using my Give DIrectly transfers. I am saving part of my monthly transfer towards buying land since this is my major dream in my life. I am grateful because I am already seeing progress since I started receiving money from Give Directly."

Kennedy received a $40 fourteenth payment.
"Before the transfers, I used to reside at my parent's house. I had come of age to rent my own house and due to low income from casual work, I was not able to. I would feel ashamed of myself since most of my agemates have rented their houses yet I was still staying in my parent's house. This is why I chose to rent my own house so that I could finally grow in life. I felt I was stagnant in my father's house. Right now, I pay my own rent and live in my own house just like my friends. It makes me happy and feels so proud of the step I have made in life."

Onesmus received a $40 fourteenth payment.
"For the past two years, I have always depended on a small income from casual work and any other odd jobs in my area. Since they were not reliable, I would always fail to meet my family needs well. This only showed my failure as a parent. I would fail to keep all the promises I made to my family because I did not have the finances to do all their needs. This is the main reason why I saved part of my transfers to start a business. The profit was low at first since I started with a low stock but as I continue investing in the business on a monthly basis, I have managed to pay back all my debts, fulfil all the promises I made to my family and I am continuing to deliver which makes me happy. The transfers and the business has turned my life around in a way I did not expect."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is the newly built house that I never thought I would build anytime soon. We had the desire of building a new and better house for our family but the little income that we received from GiveDirectly was hardly enough to enable us build this house."

"In the next six months I expect my life to change in that we shall be more financially independent as a family as well as having better living standards of our family. The poultry keeping project shall have hopefully stabilized and earning us quite high income that would enable us meet the cost of basic household needs without much struggle. We shall also be in a position to make more profits and save up on it to invest in other meaningful family businesses."

"The biggest difference in daily life is that I have paid school fees for my children. I depend on the casual jobs in the village to earn an income to meet all the basic needs and pay part of the school fees for my children in school. Getting this casual jobs sometimes was a big challenge. My children would be sent home to collect the school fees and because I did not have the money ready they could stay home for some time which was affecting their performance in school. When I received the money fro GiveDirectly I cleared paying the school fees and my children was not sent home. This led to an improvement in performance and even gave me peace of mind to do my daily duties at home without any worry. I'm so happy because I have devoted most of my time to my farm unlike before where casual jobs were the priority."

"I expect to have established an additional business for my wife. I am planning to open a second-hand business for her. Currently, the whole family depends on me, remember we also have extended family to look after thus it is not an easy task. Having that business will earn us more income to enable us to meet our financial needs and also it empowers the person running it. I am very positive that in the next six months I'll be having a financial breakthrough."
