"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now have a cow for rearing. I had one cow before and decided to get another one that would increase the source of food for my family and an income from the sale of the excess. It will also act as a security in case of an emergency. I am also glad that I now have a cupboard to store my utensils. I used to store these in a sack and it was quite unhygienic. The transfers also helped me weed my farm. I had initially planned to sell a sheep in order to help me pay for the weeding of my farm but thankfully the transfers came in. I had not been feeling very well the past few days and the transfers also helped me pay the medical fees."

"The biggest hardship I have faced in life is lack of capital to start my own business. Even though I have 0.5 acre of land under cultivation where I have grown maize and beans, the produce I get from it is hardly enough to cater for school fees and save to start a business owing to the fact that I have a son who is in university. Therefore, a business will help me save some cash to meet the education expenses for my son and other household needs comfortable without depending on well wishers."

"I am now at peace seeing my children progressing with their studies without any interruptions. I have never been able to pay for my children's school fees on time like I did when I received this first transfer from GiveDirectly. I have paid and cleared school fees for a whole year. This will give me enough time to prepare for next years fees, which is the biggest difference in my daily life."

Collins received a $526 second payment.
"Before we were enrolled by Give Directly, my father struggled a lot to pay school fees for me and my five siblings in school. We are at different levels of education with some in college, some in high school and primary school which means a lot of money that was not easy for my father to raise. With the transfer, we were able to clear our fee for the year which means that we will now comfortably stay in school full time without being sent home for delayed fee payments. We have also made some investments that will help make things easier in future such as purchasing a dairy cow that will later produce milk that can be sold for family income and improving on farming."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that, I am officially married which has made my parents very happy. I am happy too because when I go to visit my parents now, they welcome me with love and respect has their married daughter. Previously, I had stayed with my spouse for over 5 years which annoyed my parents and they started to disown me."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is the fact that I had money at hand that I was able to spend on anything that I really desired. I was so happy that in my life time, I was able to stock food for my family and they all had enough to eat out of as compared to before when we depended on farm produce alone for both commercial and subsistence. We always remained with very little for consumption which in most cases left us with famine."
