Emily
received a $525 second payment.
"My life is currently different from how it would have been had I not received the transfer. First, my daughter was able to clear her college fee arrears and was given her certificate. Due to this, she has been able to secure for herself a job. Also, I was able to practice farming for the first time. Over the past years, I did not have money to use in buying farm inputs and for farm preparation purposes hence I usually opt out to lease it to different people and I am glad that this was the opposite this season. I am now optimistic of a good harvest that will last us for some time."

"Unreliable source of income has been the biggest hardship i face. I work in people's farms and whenever i manage to secure menial jobs to do, i spend all the money in buying food for the family. Sometimes i am forced to borrow money to support the needs of my family hence i have outstanding debts to pay from my neighbours and friends, something that has deprived me my dignity whenever i walk around the village."

"Six of my children are in various levels of education; one in college, two in secondary school and three in a boarding primary school. This is going to cost a total of $350 of the first transfer. I will invest the remaining $200 towards poultry farming; I am planning to buy 30 chicken layers, improve the poultry house and buy a perimeter chain-link to fence my farm as part of the project."

"While I am jobless and a fulltime housewife,my husband works as a security guard in Nairobi on contract basis. At often times than not, his salary is delayed thus making life hard for me and our small baby. Consequently, I am forced to starve since I do not have an alternative source of income. My biggest worry is that our baby will suffer from malnutrition."

Julius
received a $524 second payment.
"Had it not for the transfers from GiveDirectly, I wouldn't have bought seats for the newly built house. We are currently unashamed of inviting visitors because we now have a place for them to sit on.
I also record that our child have peaceful study time since we no longer fail to pay his school fees in time. I am very hopeful that he will pass in their exams, and they will be important.
I also have a source of income from the sale of milk which came out of the cow that was bought. The milk is also food to my children hence I would not spend most of the money in procurement of milk for family use."

Fancy
received a $524 second payment.
"My life is currently different that it would have been in that we currently have continuous source of income from the motor bike business that was started out of this transfers. In essence the money gave us a motor bike and also employed one of my family members where we get daily income from.
When the cow calves, I will also have a source of income from the sale of milk from it. The milk is also food to my children hence I would not spend most of the money in procurement of milk for family.
Nowadays, I am keeping chicken which provides me with continuous supply of its products where I get income everytime, I sale them. "

"
Had it not for money, I would not have bought a cow which is currently providing milk for my family. Sometimes I also sell milk for income. My children are now happy, their health improved and I nolonger face stress which usually comes out of lack of money.
When the money came, I procured more stock of food which fed the family for a couple of months. We no longer have such problems because it was completely eradicated. "
