Ramazan
received a $464 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is the fact that I will be able to have my permanent house. This will relieve me from the issue of always buying grass expensively to annually renovate the roof that leaks."

Mariam
received a $517 initial payment.
"I was wakened up by a loud vibration from my mobile phone and this was an indication that there was a new message. I was a bit nervous and wondered who would send e a message at such an hour. I then decided to check only to realize it was an Mpesa message from GiveDirectly. I felt so happy since I knew the dream of owning a better house shall come true"

Jumwa
received a $516 initial payment.
"I spent part of my first transfer on buying some building materials such as iron sheets, building poles, timber, and nails. This was purposely for the construction of a new house for my children since my house was small it could not accommodate us all. I then bought some goats as my living asset that I can lean on in case of any financial difficulties. I later bought a bed and a mattress to replace the traditional bed that I have been using for all those years. The remaining amount of money, I bought enough foodstuffs for my children and decent clothes."

Safari
received a $517 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now keep goats in my compound. For all those years now, I have been longing to buy them but I could not due to low income and other urgent family needs that needed to be taken care of at that particular time. I am now happy with the progress I have made because some have started reproducing and this gives me hope that they will increase in number within a short period of time. This also assures me that I will achieve all my goats through them."

Bahati
received a $517 initial payment.
"I spent part of my first transfer on buying a dairy cow and three goats and chicken which cost KES 29000. I later bought some beddings such as a bed and a mattress to replace the traditional bed that I have been using for all those years. I then bought a bicycle which is now helping me in fetching water from the dam. I also bought a water tank which will be helping me in collecting and storing rainwater. The remaining amount of money, I am using it in buying enough foodstuffs for my family that would take us to the next harvesting season."

Salama
received a $517 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is the fact that I now own dairy cows. One of the cows is currently producing milk which makes me optimistic. I am getting a daily income through milk sales within the village and the neighbouring villages. I am planning to save money and start a retail shop business very soon. My children's health has also improved as a result of the milk they take daily. In addition, meeting my family's needs has become easier as compared to before since I had no livestock to lean on."

Riziki
received a $517 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is the fact that I now own a piece of land that I acquired after getting the transfer. This farm will help in growing subsistence crops such as maize for the purpose of feeding my family. Previously my farm was very small it was not enough for me to live and do any type of farming, in addition, it was not productive. Sometimes I used to hire from friends which was very expensive. I am so grateful to GD because I would not have bought the piece of land anytime soon."

Magdalene
received a $517 initial payment.
"I have been operating a tailoring business for so many years in my village. But then this business hasn't been doing well simply because I did not own a sewing machine, instead, I used to hire from friends. This was the main reason why the business was not running well since the little I was getting in a day I had to share it with the owner of the sewing machine. Considering this has been my family source of income in that, every household need has always depended on the business. Therefore after receiving my first transfer, I bought a new sewing machine which is now making my business run smoothly. The little I get is all mine unlike before whereby I used to share with the owner of the machine. This has also made me cater to all my family needs without straining like before."
