"We usually get water for drinking as well as for domestic use from an open water pan 3 kilometres away. The water is contaminated since people still practice open defecation in this area and livestock also drink water from the same source. My wish of owning my own water tank for fetching and storing clean water especially during rainy seasons has been impossible all through due to lack of funds to do so, thanks to Give Directly for coming in handy to help me achieve this dream."

"My husband neglected me after I gave birth to my last born in 1982. It has been a tough journey raising up my 13 children. The heaviest burden of all is paying school fees for them. I took them all through secondary school but I had to sacrifice everything including food and clothing so that I could give them the best. Those were very tough times in my life."

"My husband lost his job earlier in the year due to covid-19. He had to come back to the village and we both now rely on casual jobs such as charcoal making to earn income. The earnings are very little, sometimes even 6 dollars only a month. This is never enough to feed my family of 7 as well as save for their education and expansion of our house."

"We are still a very young couple yet to have children and thus at an advantage to better spend this money since we do not have many responsibilities for now. My desire is to get better shelter in form of a 3 roomed house and livestock for commercial purposes. Livestock trading happens to be a very lucrative business here and with the income I will be able to meet our needs and save for our future."

"Receiving this money means that I will be able to finish schooling, buy a dairy cattle and increase the size of my current house. I had previously enrolled into a school based program in a nearby college but I had to pause due to lack of school fees. I therefore intend to use 600USD to clear the arrears and continue with my education. I will also use 300USD to expand my current house in order to accommodate my family of three. Finally, I will use the remaining balance from my transfer to buy a dairy cattle since I do not own one."

"A separate house for my girls is basically what receiving this money means to me. This is because, my girls are now grown up and due to lack of money, I have failed to construct a separate house for them something that has ruined my joy for a long time. My plan once I receive this money is to spend a big portion of my first transfer ($350), to construct the house. On the other hand, I also plan to start livestock rearing that will include; 2 indigenous dairy cows plus 5 goats for $300 and $200 respectively. This will have opened a new chapter of my livelihood and hence, a better life."
