"After receiving the second transfer, I was grateful to first give out 5500KES to the church as the annual one-tenth of the receipt. I added a cow worth 30000KES to my herd as I had been hoping to produce more milk as an additional source of income for my family. with the remaining amount, I obtained a second-hand generator currently useful in pumping water to irrigate my vegetable farm. In the next few months, I will be harvesting tomatoes and kales that I planted in the small piece of land I bought with the first transfer. I also managed to partition grazing fields after spending 6700KES on buying fencing poles and a barbed wire. I am grateful for the progress I have made so far in my farming, and even though the project is not fully established, I am looking forward to buying my own pipes as I had been borrowing the ones I am currently using."

"The biggest hardship i always face is financial crisis,as a widow i do struggle to feed 5 children plus myself thats because i don't make much from my small business even if i do casual labour here and there,i can't afford to provide simple basic needs for my children and whenever the day comes what matters is to find food for that particular day so that we shouldn't starve at all, honestly I'm hopeful to change this situation as soon as i get my first transfer."

Previously, I was plowing using my hand which is time consuming considering that we receive rains in a season is short. In addition, I was able to boost my livestock rearing by purchasing more animals."

"Having changed a lot within a very short period is reason enough to thank GiveDirectly for the great work done in our village. Infrastructures improved in almost every household, and just like I did, many improved their farming especially the livestock sector as everyone needed at least a cow. GiveDirectly did everything fairly as no one so far can complain since every household within the village received the same amount of money and was allowed to spend on whatever they felt it was worth."

"After spending all the first transfer on all that I treated to be urgent, I spent the first part of the second transfer on the construction of a new house. I had been living in an old one with the other household members. Even though it was so small and was getting older and rusty, I was grateful that it has kept us for such a long time. After buying and allocating amounts to all the required materials, I also paid 2400KES school fees for my son, repaid the 12000KES loan I had obtained from our local savings group, and used the last bit on buying foodstuff for the household."

It has been so dark previously but the brightness we currently have is so appealing that my children enjoy reading under it."
