"My husband and I used to make farm to sustain our family but since he left me with (7) children and went to his home to marry another woman, I don't have any means of making farm to provide for my child. Because of my present condition, I have to send (4) of my children to stay with some of my relatives. The one that are with me are not in school and the casual labour work I do is not enough to feed and send them to school.
If I receive this money I will do business and send my children to school."

"Recieving this money means I will build a spacious house for me and buy a big storage of tank that will harvest plenty of water during rainy season this reducing my hustle of looking for water in a far place.
I have been unable to achieve my dreams since I am a casual labour in a nearby town where I usually over services in a petrol selling point at the end of the day I get KES 200 and I only buy food for my children this consuming every coin I earn.
I plan to use KES 70,000 to construct my house and spend the remaining for buying a storage tank."

"Being a single mother has been a challenging experience to me, this happened when I lost my husband 15 years ago, I am now an old woman and only stays with my grand daughter who is still in school, life has not been friendly since I have to struggle by going the farm in order to put food on the table. I am excited that Givedirectly have come to our village and specifically to me, given a chance to get this transfer, I will enhance my business which I started long time ago of selling sour milk ( Mursik) and also build a small that will be descent for me.
I plan to use KES 40,000 to buy two dairy cows
KES 70,000 to build my house and use the remaining in buying a storage tank for water."

"It was on a Saturday afternoon in October 2019 when my beloved wife complained of a mild headache. I brought her some painkillers from the canteen and she felt better after some hours. Later in the evening, she still complained about the headache and said she was feeling much pain. I called a motorcycle taxi rider who took us to Tenwek Mission Hospital. She was laid on a stretcher at the reception and before she could be inspected by a doctor she called out on my name then breathed her last. The passing on of my wife has been a great challenge that I have never come into terms with. She was my pillar, she supported me in payment of school fees and in taking care of the kids."

"I lost my husband seven years ago and life hasn't been easy for me since he was our breadwinner. This was a new beginning in my life since I had to take care of full responsibility for my family. I don't have any formal job thus I am left to rely on subsistence farming which isn't reliable with long droughts in our area. To me, lack of finances to meet my family's needs has been the biggest hardship I have ever faced in my life."

"Receiving this money means that we will be able to pay school fees for our 3 children in secondary school on time. For the last 4 years, we have been struggling to raise their school fees. This has been a big challenge to us, sometimes they miss class since they will be at home. We feel ashamed as a parent seeing them at home and other people's children are at school studying. Hopefully we received this transfers, we will spend KES 20,000 of the first transfers paying their school fees. Since, my main source of income has been rearing livestock, God willing we will add another lactating cow in order to increase our income in the future."

"The biggest hardship I have faced is when I lost my husband who was our bread winner. We sold all the livestock we had for his treatment which depleted all our savings. Since then I have not stabilized financially."

"Receiving this money will mean a lot to me. I currently live in a one roomed house with my family. We have always wanted to build a house but we do not have enough money to start the construction. With this transfer, we intend to build a two-roomed house so that we can convert the other house to be our kitchen. We plan to buy 5 sheep with some amount so that it can help us in future."

"I was happy when I heard from our village elder that GiveDirectly were coming to our village. We have, for a long time, heard about their work and the impact that we have seen is great. I hope that if I become one of those who will receive it, I will use some amount from the transfer to buy a cow. I do not own one and buy milk from my neighbor. It is not enough for my family because I have two little children who really need milk. If I buy a cow I will be able to provide enough milk for my children. I will also use some amount to plaster my house (outside walls) for it to last long because when it rains, the water washes away the clay that I use on the walls."

"The biggest hardship that I face is lack of food and lack of money. I do not harvest enough crops to sell and have money to buy all the things that I need."
