"The biggest hardship that I faced is luck of financial independence. I have always wish to start a business so that I can be independent. Even though I worked in different fields for money, it all ends at buying food. If I had a chance of finding K100000 ($90), o would have been saying a different story."

"Receiving this money will meant having enough capital to boost our fish business. I and my wife got married 4 years ago and together we have a daughter. For the part three years 2018 - we were living at my home village in Chipole whilst we were doing fish business. For a day, at Chipola, we could make K2000 ($1.50) on a good day whilst on a bad day we could make K500 ($0.20). I could not say the business was growing but it was enough to find food for the day. Due to covid -19 out break, the sale margin fell down and so was our capital. It's then we decided to move here in Kuwaya village, my wife's home because our house was close to the road. We hoped for the best and business is not picking. For instance we do order fish at K5000 ($4.67), our capital, and we sale them for two days at a profit of K1500 ($1.45). If we are to get the cash gift from Give Directly, we are hoping that out capital will be K100000 ($98). Meaning that our proceeds will be more than K20000 ($19.83) per two days. With those calculations, I believe our lives will not be the same."

"I am an orphan and my siblings and I depend on our guardian for most of the things ranging from food to our school fees. After our parents died, my father's brother gave us one of his house to live in and instructed me to build a house for my siblings when I complete my secondary school studies. The transfers enabled me to build a house that we're almost moving into it and to pay for my school fees and that of my siblings. Due to this, we have been able to concentrate on our studies this term as we have never been sent back home like previously when I was constantly in and out of the school. Having been able to achieve this has made my life different"
