"Financial constraints are the greatest challenge for me. I have three children in high school and three in the colleges. It is difficult to raise their school fees considering I depend on farming to earn a living. Currently I have $240 in arrears school fees and I am forced to depend on fundraising from friends and relatives to make ends meet."

"Due to my old age, I am unable to work and have been struggling to afford food. As a result, I rely on my children and other kind individuals for support, and at times, I go without food because of financial constraints.
Additionally, my grass-thatched house poses a risk during heavy rains, but I can't afford to build a more secure home for myself."

"I am really struggling with paying the school fees for my two children, one in grade 8 and one in grade 9. Each year, I need to come up with $400 for both of them, but my daily earnings of $3 from casual jobs are barely enough to cover food for my family of eight. I often have to borrow money from neighbors, but I never manage to get the full amount needed. It is painful to fall into debt, and my children keep getting sent home from school because of overdue fees. I really hope I can find a solution that helps keep my children in school and eases the financial pressure on my family."

"My greatest challenge currently is a lack of money to purchase food stuff and also pay school fees for my son Dalmas who is in secondary school. Currently I don't have a permanent job and the casual labor I depend on is not consistent and dependable. This really makes my life difficult and sometimes I'm stressed up thinking about my family's wellbeing."

"We live near Lake Baringo, the lake has been expanding over the last decade. Due to this, we lost our farming land. Lacking or being forced to borrow land to plant crops has affected our ability to provide food for our family. The space we have now is not conducive for farming because of the long drought seasons. Inadequate of water also means we cannot do irrigation here like besides the lake."

"I have already bought six goats two have already given birthWith five children all attending school, the weight of responsibility feels heavier than ever. That's why I've been pondering a plan that might just lift some of that burden off our shoulders. I'm thinking of starting to raise goats soon. It might sound simple, but I believe it could be our ticket to a less stressful life. If I have goats, I'll have a safety net; I can sell them in case of emergencies, whether it's covering bills or paying for my children's school fees. It's about creating a cushion for my family and ensuring I am not constantly teetering on the edge of financial strain. With this plan, I hope to bring a sense of stability and security to my household, allowing me to focus on nurturing my children's futures without the constant worry of making ends meet.for fee and supporting my chilren-remembrance to my cash-sell some and a cow for land cultivation"

"Currently, I am in the process of building a new house, and I am delighted with the progress. My plan right now is to continue using a portion of the transfers that I receive from GiveDirectly to complete the construction. My goal is to ensure that I have a comfortable and safe space to live in, as the one I am currently living in is not quite habitable because it is leaking and on the verge of collapsing. Once my house is complete, I intend to continue saving a portion of my transfers in the merry-go-round group that we have in our village. My aim is to use the pooled funds that I will receive to purchase goats because I have always wanted to have a reliable source of income that will sustain me even after this program comes to an end. I am hopeful that the goats I will buy will multiply and increase in number and value over time so that, in the future, I will be able to sell them and use the proceeds to take care of myself and my family. I am truly grateful for the positive impact that GiveDirectly is making on us."

"After my previous house collapsed, I was determined to build a new home for my family since we did not have a place to sleep. Thanks to the transfers I've been receiving from GiveDirectly, I've been able to make significant progress on this project, and I am thrilled to see my house taking shape, with only the roofing left to complete. We are currently living in the incomplete house with the makeshift roofing as I work towards its completion. Currently, my plan is to continue using the transfers to finish the roofing and provide my family with a secure and comfortable living space. Once the house is complete, my plan is to continue using the transfers to buy more goats. My hope is that these goats will multiply and increase in number and value over time. Eventually, I plan to trade the goats for cows, which will be a game-changer for my farming efforts because they will ease the physical strain I experience during farm preparation, especially when it comes to plowing. This will also allow me to hire out the cows to plow other people's farms, creating an additional income stream for my family. This is something I've always wanted to do, as it will provide a sustainable way to support my loved ones. I am grateful for the support I've received from GiveDirectly, as it has given me the means to build a better future for my family."

"My current house is small, rusty, and on the verge of collapsing, which has led me to think deeply about my living situation. Building a two-room house has always been my dream, and I am determined to make it a reality. Although I don't have a lot of money to build it right now, I have started saving my transfers through our local savings group. Once the savings mature, I plan to use those funds to construct a warm and comfortable two-room house, just as I have always envisioned. After achieving this goal, I intend to continue saving my transfers to purchase two bulls and an ox-driven plow so that I may use them to plow my farm. At my age, plowing the fields by hand has become exhausting, and I can no longer manage it alone. The cows will not only help me with my farming, but when a chance arises, I will hire them out to plow other people's farms, providing an additional source of income for my family. This way, I can create a sustainable future for myself and my loved ones."

"Before I started receiving transfers from GiveDirectly, I used to make a living by burning and selling charcoal, which required me to travel to Mariakani, a far distance from our home. However, due to the hardships of this work and the fact that I also had a small child to take care of, I had to give it up. Instead, I opened a food business selling chapatis and mandazi to support my family imediately I started receiving these transfers. I'm grateful that it's doing well. With my most recent transfer, I used $66 to purchase two goats, which I plan to use as a future financial resource since they will multiply and allow me to sell their offspring in case of financial crises, such as the need to pay for fees or other basic needs. With the remaining amount, I bought food for my family, as we were running low on supplies."
