Peace
received an initial payment.
"It has always been my dream to build a larger house with more space to accommodate my two children, who have always slept on the kitchen floor of my previous home. I was overjoyed when I received the first transfer, knowing that my dream was finally coming true. I received the good news via message notification around 7 p.m., and despite my joy, I called my husband, who rushed home to confirm the good news with me. He was equally pleased, and we thanked God for GiveDirectly's assistance."

Lawreen
received a $450 initial payment.
"I had been waiting for two days after my transfer was delayed following enrollment. After four months of waiting, I was relieved to receive one this evening via message notification. When I received confirmation that my payment had been received in full, I could not contain my excitement and called my husband, who was away at the time, to share the good news. My husband couldn't believe what I was telling him, so I had to send him $55 to convince him. He was pleased and asked me to begin working on our plans."

Annah
received a $450 initial payment.
"I had already built a house for my family of five when I received my first transfer. Despite the fact that it had taken me more than a year to build, I had to move in before it was finished. The main door I had installed was too weak and made of whatever materials I could find at the time. I had to spend $70 on a new door with a pre-installed knob lock. In addition, I paid $13 for two bags of cement used in repairing the new door and $23 for the labor force that replaced the door. At the moment, I am also building a pit latrine, for which I spent $45 on materials and have yet to add some meant for wall construction. I have been leasing small plots of land to farm on and feed my family for a long time. This had been very costly and, in most cases, ineffective. I paid my neighbor, who is currently selling an acre piece, with the first transfer of $220, and I am grateful that he immediately allowed us to begin farming on it while he awaits the pending $400. I spent some of the remaining funds on groceries, purchasing a sack of dry maize grains for $62 and a sack of beans for $140. In addition, I spent $15 to pay off my children's school arrears, $50 to settle a debt with a neighbor, and the remainder to buy new clothes for my three children."

Selina
received a $450 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is the hope of finally providing enough space for my children by building a new house. Even though the construction is not yet complete, I am grateful for GiveDirectly's assistance in making my dream a reality. My children are also excited because they have been living in a single hut since they were born and will soon have their own room where they can sleep and study every evening."

Precious
received an initial payment.
"The receipt of a message from GiveDirectly confirming the receipt of my first transfer was the happiest moment for me and my family. We had been waiting for the transfer for a month after enrolling, but there was no clarity on the specific dates. Even though I was at home with my children, I couldn't tell them anything until the second day, when I called my husband and told him, as well as my children, the good news. We all rejoiced and thanked God for the fulfillment of GiveDirectly's promise."

Saumu
received a $435 second payment.
"All I really have to say on this is how much GiveDirectly help people change their lives, by achieving their dreams. The financially power that GiveDirectly gives to its recipients is like nothing g else I have witnessed amongst NGOs or any other entity that assists the less fortunate. The only thing they can improve on is maybe increasing the number of people they reach since there are still so many who do not know of GiveDirectly, but are in dire need of their assistance."

Jackson
received a $450 second payment.
"GiveDirectly excels at giving dignity ad respect to those who are needy , in that it allows us recipients to chose, how, when and where to use the funds as we see fit. An initiative where they had project managers, eg, if they give me funds and I choose to build, GiveDirectly could offer contractors, managed by them and who it could use the funds to pay, and help me realise the final [product. That way if funds aren't enough or the quality of work is wanting, they could guide the recipient to ensure all goes as planned and they get maximum return on the investment. I feel that one thing GiveDirectly could look into in terms of improving."

Naomi
received a $435 second payment.
"I hope to be able to comfortably provide all the basic needs for my family in the next one or two years from now.
We really struggled in the past as and given this great opportunity to receive free and unconditional transfers, We are hoping to completely change our lives for the better.
In the next one year, I will be supplying milk and venturing into other forms of farming and enrol all my children to school without having to worry about school fees."

Alfred
enrolled.
"I have a money problem. The absence of job is to blame for this. Since leaving the Capital (Nairobi), where I was employed in an industrial sector, in the year 2020, I have not been able to find a steady employment that pays me enough to support my family. I had to relocate to the village because the arrival of the coronavirus made life in the city difficult. My current employer offers me a small salary that is insufficient to cover my family's essential necessities. Since my wife and I are expecting our second child in December, I'm concerned about tomorrow."
