Thabu
received a $28 sixth payment.
"I am quite happy that this year I do not have to worry about paying for tuition because, using the funds that I received, I settled all the debts I had when it comes to my son's education. Therefore, I plan on using the funds that I receive this time around to build a proper house for me and my family because the one I live in is made from mud and is grass thatched as well. I am hoping to save some money with the transfers and begin gradually buying building material, beginning with iron sheets. Nutrition has also been an occasional challenge due to the drought, and my hope is that these funds will allow me to ensure that my family and I never have to go hungry as we have in the past. Lastly, I would also love to buy a couple of farm animals as an investment."

Sidi
received a $28 sixth payment.
"I am planning to build a new spacious house in the coming year and also buy goats. My current house is very small and I have to squeeze my items in order to get some space. I am planning to start buying some of the building materials as months go by until I have enough to start the construction. I am also planning to invest in livestock such as goats since they are the only assets I can manage to have. I believe when they reproduce and increase in number, I can readily sell them to cater for my financial needs."

Purity
received a sixth payment.
"I am eagerly anticipating the monies I will receive this year because I plan to completely renovate my home so that I may add more rooms. Currently, my husband and I are the only ones living in our home, but we plan to expand our family in the future, so this will be useful in the long run. Additionally, I hoped to create a business where I could own a kiosk before the year is out by using the money I was given. I want to start a business so I can assist my husband with household expenses because he struggles to pay them."

Kache
received a sixth payment.
"I'll start setting aside some cash each month for my son's tuition moving ahead. My son Baraka is currently in his last year of primary school and will move on to secondary school the following year. It will be better if I start saving for him now because his school tuition expenses for the following year will be more expensive. I have been caring for our five children since my spouse passed away more than five years ago. It has not been simple because my income from the charcoal enterprise is insufficient to meet their demands. Due to my inability to pay his tuition, our first child left elementary school, but fortunately, our second child was sponsored by a group that covers all of his educational costs. I will be able to enroll Baraka in secondary school once I start saving early. Two more are still in lower primary school."

Charo
received a $28 sixth payment.
"I am a livestock keeper, and I do not have any additional source of income except GiveDirectly's transfer. When I began receiving my monthly support, my primary goal is always to channel all my transfers toward school fees. I have three school-going children, my daughter Lucy and two sons, Silas and Sikubali. For the coming year, I shall prioritize their education. I am glad that they progress well with their studies. They like their studies and are positive in life. Without the transfer, the situation would have been out of hand, and I think they would have dropped out of school."

Fancy
received a $435 second payment.
"I used around ksh 30000 to expand my business that I started in the beginning of the year with the first transfers, with the transfers, I was able to buy more sewing machines, added sewing material and employed more people to help me around the shop since the number of my clients is increasing especially for school uniform.
I also bought food for a family of eight enough for a month and paid off a school debt of about ksh 10000 so my child was able to go back to school, we are so grateful now because I cleared the arrears on time and she will be able to settle in school without stressing about school fees."

Faith
received a $435 second payment.
"In my opinion, what GiveDirectly does well in this program is that we receive the transfers in lumpsum amounts. This helps in planning as one is in a position to do something huge as compared to when the transfers are given in small instalments.
Another thing that GiveDirectly does well is that the unlearned recipients are taught how to use mpesa. This has reduced the number of theft cases in the community as most of us managed to change our pins to a more secure code.
What needs to be done differently is enrolling all the individuals in the household to avoid household conflict. During enrollment, those individuals who did not have responsibilities by then were left out of the program yet these are the same people who steal from their old and vulnerable parents.
Another thing that needs to be done differently is enrolling all the communities in a specific village for uniformity purposes and this will prevent too many complaints coming from the communities that are left out during the registration to the programs."

Kahindi
received a $450 second payment.
"It has long since been my life long plan to buy and build rental houses. I am hoping to secure funds in one way or another to obtain a 2 or 3 acre tract of land that I can then develop to allow me to be self sufficient financially."
