"I am a small scale farmer, I get to sell the produce from my farm and earn a few coins to earn a living which I use to support my family of five kids. With my second transfer which I received from GiveDirectly I used Ksh 30,000 to build myself a house, since the one I had was not in good condition. I am happy that my family and I have a place to call home now. I have always wanted to do livestock farming, so I bought a cow worth Ksh 20,000. With the remaining Ksh 3,000 I bought food for my family and we get to have a meal every day on our table."

"As a mother of 4 and a wife, it's not difficult to understand why my first priority was my kids fees, after having received the funds from GiveDirectly. I paid KES. 3,000 that was in arrears and additionally covered all the 2023 fees for my three kids in school. I then proceeded to buy 2 beds and 2 mattresses for myself and my kids. The reminder of the funds were then used to renovate my home. I bought iron sheets for the roof and had them installed. The reminder went to food for the family and clearing my personal debts. All my kids got to Makongeni Primary and are in Grades 7, 4 and nursery , while my youngest is 6 months old. The tuition fees are KES. 130, KES. 200 and KES. 140 per month respectively, and between my husband's boda boda job in Mazera fetching him KES. 500 to KES. 1,000 and the little I make from selling my cereals to the neighbours at KES. 20 or KES. 40 per cup of beans or kunde and the odd sack of maize at between KES. 4,000/ KES. 5,000, it's not hard to see that we needed the funds that GiveDirectly was offering and it truly changed our lives. We are eternally grateful."

"The bulk of my funds, received from GiveDirectly, went to catering for school fees for my kids. I am a mother of 9, 5 of whom are in school still. My 4 eldest are all adults, married and with kids. My 5th is in Palakumi secondary and in form 4, my 6th just completed school last year, my 7th born is also in Palakumi School - form 1, my 8th born is in Grade 6 at Muungano school in Mariakani where she lives with my sister and my last born is in Grade 3 at Bodoi Primary. Their fees amount to KES. 10,000 and KES 1,200 per term, respectively for those in school, and the funds were allocated as needed towards their tuitions. Running my Posho milll at Palakumi trading centre, while tilling my farm where I live, I have been trying to struggle to provide for my family, and the funds from GiveDirectly were the blessing I had been awaiting. They truly have changed our lives for the better."

"First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude for the transfer and my conviction that I will gain more as a result. My daughter finished her basic education last year and will start secondary school in one month. We would not have been able to send her to secondary school if it weren't for the organization, and we had no plans to do so. In exchange for a tiny charge, my husband, who is the primary breadwinner, assists others by carrying their baggage. He works in the city, therefore the rent on his home is covered by part of the same income. To increase our revenue, I burn charcoal on the other side. Most of the time, our earnings is insufficient to cover a full day's worth of meals. Going ahead, I will utilize all of my upcoming transfers to pay for our daughter's educational fees while using other funds to cover everyday living needs. One of the biggest things a parent can give their child is education, and we will be pleased parents to see our child follow her dreams"
