received a $435 second payment.
"I want to start a business. We can no longer farm because of the lack of rain, therefore we must work several jobs to supplement our income. This will be a supermarket store. Last but not least, I want to build a water tap, sell water to the neighborhood, and install a water pump."

received a $450 second payment.
"I want to continue educating my children until they finish school. I will be able to achieve this by saving little by little from my daily income. I am also planning to boost my business bit by bit after getting some small profit from the businesses. I would also request GiveDirectly for an additional transfer since I still have a long way to go with my family. An additional transfer will give me a big boost."

"Receiving this money from GiveDirectly has been of great help to me and my family. At least my children are continuing with their education after I finished paying their school fees. I do not have any complaints at all but I am requesting additional transfers in order to continue educating my children and boosting my business"

"Receiving this money from GiveDirectly has been of great help to me and my family. At least my daughter is continuing with her education after I finished paying her school fees even though his brother is currently at home due to a lack of school fees. I do not have any complaints at all but I am requesting additional transfers in order to continue educating my son."

received a $435 second payment.
"With the first and second transfers I received from GiveDirectly, I managed to build a house, a two-roomed big house of 24 pieces of iron sheets which I bought at kes. 980 each. Before I started receiving these transfers, I used to live in a mud-thatched house, it was very small and old. It could not fit me, my wife, and my six children. We used to struggle so much to even operate in it.
I own a small restaurant, where I cook and sell foodstuffs, like ugali, vegetables, tea, and burns. Before I started receiving these transfers, I used to struggle a lot with my restaurant, it had no adequate capital, and I wished to grow it. I am a father of seven, three boys and four girls. Educating them was a big challenge, I had a huge fee balance but at least these transfers helped me pay part of their school fees. My wife is a maize and vegetable farmer and always takes care of our home. Thank you so much GiveDirectly for your support"

"As a widow and the breadwinner of my household, I am compelled to perform very strenuous work like quarrying to sustain the family. This work has drained my energy and, a situation that makes me look so old than I should be. Imagine spending the whole day at the quarry, maybe hungry on some days due to the nature of my work. My pay is usually $20 per week, an income that settles my bills only. I have never thought of investing because my work is just hand-to-mouth. What a sorrowful life!"

"The lack of a reliable source of income is the biggest challenge that I am facing in my life. With a family of 10, we normally depend on my husband who does bicycle maintenance, a job that has currently been challenged by the existence of motorbikes. He usually gets $3 per day, an earning that we spend on food. This means there are no savings for our future and our children's education is also affected since they are frequently sent home due to a lack of fees."

"I originally intended to open a tailor shop, but I haven't done so. I have so far used the prior transfers that I had saved up to purchase a sewing machine. I still need $12 to rent a shop, buy the fabrics I'll need, and other things to get the shop up and going. I will set aside $15 per month from the transfers in order to accomplish this. We presently only have the monthly stipend from GiveDirectly as a regular source of income, so I will utilize the remaining amount to cover our living expenses. Our household income will increase once the shop is operational."

"What Give Directly is doing well is giving unconditional and free transfers, this is very helpful because we are becoming financially educated when handling money and also very responsible, especially to women who were not allowed to control money or give monetary opinions in their households."
