"Our soil are not fertile therefore working without fertiliser is hard and I currently don't have any livestock of my own to give me fertiliser thus the small land I own does not produce enough. Another challenge I am facing is not having enough land , i have to rent from others to be able to provide for my family. Working for my family all alone without a husband is very hard for me because I have to do everything on my own without any support and I have to raise my 3 children on my own. I have to work for others daily to be able to get money for school fees and other school materials which most of the times i lack to get when we are in sunny season nobody hire people and in that time i struggle a lot and my children face the same fate as well."

"My greatest ambition would be to drill a borehole near my house. I know it's possible, and it would greatly improve both livestock and crop farming, as well as the overall quality of life for me and my guests. I could grow more crops and sell them with the water, increasing my income and allowing me to do more for myself, my children, and my grandchildren."

"I never thought I would get financial assistance in my life like the one I am getting from GiveDirectly. I have been doing casual construction jobs which pay little compared to the many household needs. The transfer has greatly helped me to pay fees for my six children and buy food. My objective is to continue paying fees on time for my six children and ensure that their studies are not interrupted. This will give me an opportunity to spend my small earnings from casual jobs to buy adequate food for the family. I am also planning to buy a water pump that costs Ksh.20000 in the coming years. I will be saving at least Ksh.500 for this purpose. I normally do some irrigation when there is enough rainfall, and I have to carry water from the water pan which is tiresome. Having a water pump will ease the job, and maximise my 1/8 piece of land by planting vegetables for sale."

"I currently have two major objectives that I want to accomplish, first, I have three children in school that I need to ensure their studies are not interrupted for lack of fees. I am planning to pay for them on time every month and ensure that they excel in their studies. Secondly, my living house is in a bad shape, the roof is old and dilapidated. I rely on my husband's little earnings from casual construction jobs, and we couldn't save enough to buy building materials to rebuild the house. I am currently planning to buy at least 1 iron sheet every month until I have enough to facilitate the renovation."

"I currently face the challenge of poverty which has failed us to take children to good schools and as a result they study in schools with poor standards where they also attend irregularly hence performing poorly in class. I am also disturbed by water which comes from under ground when it rains. We really suffer because we lack where to sleep when water enters the house."

"I am currently facing the challenge of struggling to raise school fees for my daughter who is Tororo Girls Secondary school in senior four and the son at Uganda Christian University where I have sold many plots of land and we are left with only one plot of land hence hindering us from having cultivation leading to few sources of food. I also face a problem of water which affects our house whenever it rains and with this, we even lack to sleep when it happens putting us in hard life. Poverty has also hit my family in that we can not raise capital to start up even a small business which can earn us daily income in order to meet basic needs easily."

"The biggest challenge Iam facing is that the house we stay in is not ours so I have a worry that the owner may come anytime and send us away which will worse the stule of living because we shall have no where to sleep. Another a challenge is having a small piece of land which at times think of selling in order to build a house but then ask myself many questions. When I sell land, where will I cultivation from to get food for my people and Another question is that where will I construct the house and the answer cones back to staying in someone's house other than selling the only piece of land have in life. I have also failed to school fees that can take my children to good schools hence leaving them in local Government schools which do perform well."

"My husband and I sell charcoal, and this is our main source of income which is still unstable. I had always wished to own cattle like my neighbours, so when I received the second transfer, I went straight to the market the following day and bought 5 goats worth $140. I chose goats because they can come in handy in times of emergencies like school fees. My son who is in class 8 was almost falling into depression because he had stayed at home for 3 weeks without going to school because he had arrears of $250, I cleared it and I'm he is back to his jovial state since he attends school daily. I'm so grateful to Give Directly, had you not come in, my charcoal business would have taken forever to raise this school fees balance. I also used $24 to buy new school uniforms for my 4 children who are in primary school, there old uniforms were already torn. We also had no food in the house, we were used to feeding from hand to mouth, but when I received the second transfer, I spend $100 on 4 bags of maize which has sustained us for almost 4months. Now I have a taste of the heavenly food security feeling! I used the remaining $16 to buy a 'leso' for myself and vegetables. Thank you so much Give Directly."

"I currently face a challenge of water that comes from under ground when it rains which affects the house and even lack where to sleep and just up to morning. Another problem that disturbs us is landslides and flash floods which at one time happened and stones killed people hence leaving us in fears that we are to die anytime."

"Living in a small dilapidated house with my three children and wife is such a difficult situation for a parent. We always live in fear not knowing when the house will come down and we will be left homeless. Upon receiving the second transfer, amidst so many responsibilities the first priority was to see that the house was at least renovated. I set out to buy all the required materials for the construction, I spent $200 which is inclusive of the mason fee. My family is now grateful to have a decent house to shelter. My wife and I are livestock and cash crop, farmers. We bought one dairy cow for $220, which produces at least two liters of milk daily that we sell and buy whatever we do not have in the house. I also replaced our old bedding and bought a few pairs of clothes for the entire family at a cost of $80. I spent the remaining $30 on groceries that would last us for a while. Without the assistance of GiveDirectly, it would not have been simple, thus we are thankful."
