Zawadi
received a $28 twelfth payment.
"Having no one to support me in raising my children is tough since I lack a stable source of income for all their basic needs. At this point, supporting their education is the greatest opportunity I can offer them to ensure they secure a brighter future. I plan to do this by continuing to save through the self-help group and rearing livestock to afford their school fees. "

"Supporting the education of my seven children is my priority right now. I would be happy if I could have the capacity to see them through primary school, secondary school, and college. In fact, one of them is set to join high school next month and my goal is to ensure he is well-settled. "

Samuel
received a $442 initial payment.
"Around 3:00 PM, I received a message from GiveDirectly that I was not expecting. I was with my spouse, whom I immediately informed because I was overjoyed and could not hide it. We had to check our account balance to make sure the information we read in the text was correct. My husband was equally excited, and we began planning the withdrawal point because most of the nearby mobile shops were crowded."

received a second payment.
"What GiveDirectly does well is believing that, people who live in poverty understands their priority of needs. With the cash transfers, people made different choices whereby some bought domestic animals, others built house, paid school fees, etc. Cash empowers people in different ways and therefore changes lives of many."

Karisa
received a $428 second payment.
"As our economic backbone, I am currently providing strong support to farming in order to ensure the mass production of short-season crops such as beans, vegetables, and Irish potatoes. These are not only for our own consumption, but we will also sell the surplus to generate income. I am currently in the process of clearing the land ready for farming simply waiting for the rain to start so that I kick off. In the long run, I believe the savings from farming activities will be useful in purchasing a lactating cow to provide an immediate solution to my family of 12's high milk costs."

Joel
received a $429 second payment.
"Second transfer came at the right time, my children had been sent back home for fees. I have 10 children, two in tertiary, and 8 in secondary. It was uneasy to pay fees since we only depended on painting jobs and small-scale farming which is unreliable. I felt frustrated to see a drop in my children performance since they would be sent home to collect fees twice every week. As a result, I cleared their fees arrears of $320 and I am glad to report a great improvement in their class performance, more study time. Furthermore, I also had the privilege to install electricity using $ 100. For the longest time, the village has been living in despair without electricity due to the high cost of installation. I am happy that I currently save a lot, due to no cost associated with moving to and fro among my 2 children to do their online courses and exams in cyber everyday, electricity light made studies easy. In addition, I also bought furniture, using $500, before, we used traditional woods as seats, something that caused a lot of backbone pain, I am happy that the family no longer experiences the challenge. I also spent $120 of the remaining on food for my family of 12 as well as new clothing. We have been struggling to feed the family due to drought and famine, on many occasions, we would skip meals but not anymore since we got the transfers, instead, the health of the family improved due to good eating habits."
