James
received a $424 second payment.
"After accomplishing a lot with the second transfer, the only goal I have left is to boost my dairy farming. I intend to save enough money from the taxi business to purchase two more dairy cows. Achieving this desire will increase milk production, resulting in more income for the family. The money I will make from selling milk will reduce the burden of providing basic needs for the family, like food. I also intend to save some for my kids' education and invest in other development projects."

Saumu
received a $28 sixth payment.
"Currently, my focus is on starting my food-point business. I have been preparing for this venture by buying the necessary furniture and utensils through previous cash transfers. My hope is that I obtain my business license in the following two months so that I can officially begin operations. I wish for the spot to have expanded and garnered customers by the end of the year. After that, I intend to start keeping livestock, particularly goats, so that as they multiply, they can accumulate wealth that will support the education of my children who are still in primary school. William
received a sixth payment.
"Following the December rains, my house's mud walls were seriously damaged. Am afraid that the entire structure may crumble anytime as it seems unsteady and slanting towards one side. Besides, it is a one-room house, which is becoming small for my growing family of nine people. My goal is to have built a new two-room shelter, made of brick walls and a tin roof by early next year. I hope to continue having the capacity to save part of the cash transfers so that I can start buying the building materials. "

Kenga
received a $28 sixth payment.
"I have always wished to replace my house’s grass-thatched roof with an iron sheet roof but financial constraints and lack of sufficient funds have hindered me. The grass-thatched roof has spoilt over the last six years, mainly from infestation by insects. When it rains, water leaks through the roof, which dampens our sleeping spaces. To successfully install the tin roof, I estimated the cost to be around $300. However, the biggest challenge is that am not sure how I will raise this amount, given my existing financial obligations; am stuck! "

received a $424 second payment.
"Investing in livestock has been my desire for a while. Besides the goats which I already had, I used $118 from the second transfer to buy three additional goats. I opted to invest more in goats because they are cheaper compared to cows and they have ready markets. After that, I paid $50 school fees for my two primary school children so that they could be retained in school for better learning. I also decided to construct a house for my son. I bought him 14 pieces of iron sheets for $112, and some roofing timbers. For the building poles and rafters, he went by himself to the forest to cut to minimize the cost. Currently, the house is completed and he is happy in his house. I also bought some food since it was a tough time for us as a family and my vegetable vending business could not meet the family's needs."

"Upon getting the second transfer, I opted to do some finishing of my house. What triggered me to this, I wanted to have a decent house courtesy of GiveDirectly. Therefore, I used $243 to buy plastering and flooring materials like cement including the labor charge. Currently, I am very happy and confident because I live in a decent house. I also paid $50 school fees for my six primary schoolchildren because they had been sent back home for fees. Currently, they are settled in school and conducting their studies. Initially, I used to rely solely on making and selling charcoal which was unreliable while my spouse is working as a night watchman. We could go up to two days a week without food since making the ends meet was a challenge for us. Based on that, I opted to save the remaining amount for the family's upkeep. As of now, since I got the transfers from GiveDirectly, we have been getting enough food to date."

Irene
received a $439 initial payment.
"A $40 monthly wage from babysitting was insufficient to support my family's requirements. As a result, I had to borrow money to cover my children's tuition and had to sleep on the floor because I was living off of scraps. Since receiving the initial transfer, my life has transformed. I was able to pay off my bills and get a decent place to live. I'm also glad since I was able to create a second room for the kids in my house after the transfer empowered me and regained my privacy."

Kache
received a $424 second payment.
"Due to my reliance on charcoal burning for living, it was challenging for me to cover my kids' tuition. I chose to pay for their school expenses even though they hadn't been expelled when I received the second transfer. I took this action because I was aware that if I didn't, I would utilize them for other things and end up stuck. I therefore spent $270 on my two secondary school-aged kids and $28 on my elementary-aged kids. After completing this, I felt relaxed and grateful that there won't be any disruptions for my kids at school. I made a decision to save the balance for the family's maintenance after that."

"A God-brought organization called GiveDirectly helped me achieve the impossible. Before the second transfer from GiveDirectly, I was residing in a dilapidated house with an iron sheet roof that was rusting and leaking. With the money, I was able to rebuild my home and construct a family toilet. Sincerely, I can tell that GiveDirectly is an organization that changes people's lives and revives faith in humanity."

"GiveDirectly is a decent company. We initially assumed it was just slime like the other organizations I had seen. Given that I was unsure of the organization's sincerity, I took extra precautions to prevent losing my belongings. I began to think that this might actually be a legitimate organization to end poverty when I got the first transfer. Generally speaking, after receiving the second transfer, I came to the conclusion that the organization was of goodness and demanded nothing in return for the assistance it provided. Oh, how I wish it could return."
