Laureen
received a $439 initial payment.
"I vividly recall being at home relaxing after a long walk from the hospital where I had taken my child for a routine check-up when I received my transfer. I was scrolling through my phone when I came across a text message indicating that I had received money from GiveDirectly. This was the best news I'd heard in a long time; it was so refreshing that I forgot I was tired. I was overjoyed because I knew I would be able to complete my tasks on time. We then began to plan how we would spend the money."

Richard
received a $439 initial payment.
"I recall the day I got my transfer. I was at home when I overheard my neighbours discussing the receipt of their initial transfer, so I returned home. I quickly grabbed my phone and checked my phone. On my screen, I saw a text message confirming that I had also received my share. I couldn't keep the good news from my wife, so I called her and told her, and she was overjoyed. She knew she'd be able to fulfil her dream of owning a dairy cow. I am overwhelmed by your generosity."

"Giving unconditional cash aid is the best thing that GiveDirectly did. Also, their criteria of targeting the poorest households in the village to improve their living conditions was a great one. I loved the fact that it's non-political and is not affiliated with any religious group, and every eligible household was enrolled without any discrimination. I just wish it could continue to support the poor since most of us have not accomplished our long-term goals."

"I invested a larger part of the transfers in boosting my livestock rearing. This is because I had desired to improve it to be more stable to support our needs without much struggle. I spent $ 325 to purchase one cow, three goats, 2 turkeys, and 8 chickens. This is a long-term investment for the family that will help us whenever face a financial crisis in the future. Similarly, I bought various veterinary medicine for the livestock for treatment when they get diseases. In addition, I intend to use the remaining amount to acquire food and clothing for my wife and children."

"Givedirectly has not done any bad things that I have seen since their operations in my county. They are very different from other NGOs in Liberia."

Irene
received a $439 second payment.
"In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well in giving unconditional cash transfers to poor households. In addition, the frequent follow-up after every transfer helped us to realize our ambitions. I feel the different enrollment stages were well explained during the community meeting and were easy to understand. Hence, there is nothing I feel they should improve on their processes."
