"When I received this transfer, I was very happy because I have been ashamed of the state of my house. I would turn down every opportuinity of my friends coming to visit me because I did not have any seats where they could sit. Now I feel confident to welcome even my in-laws to my house."

"The biggest difference in my daily life since I received this transfer is that I now have a spacious bed. Before I received this transfer, I used to strain sleeping because the bed was too small. When I received this transfer, I used it to buy a bed so that I could enjoy my sleep. My bedding too were too old and I needed new ones. Now, when I go to sleep, I feel at peace because of GD."

"My life will have changed in so many ways. One is that I will have brought up the bulls I bought to maturity. This will then be able to build a decent house to live in. I will also be collecting other building materials such as timber and along poles the way. will then build a house that can be used even to host guests comfortably."

"I noticed I had received the message so late, first I saw a message that I cannot remember exactly how it read and another from the service provider. At least I could read that of the service provider(Mpesa), the one I am used to. This one confirmed to me that I had received money,55000 KES from GiveDirectly. I was not sure either and I had to confirm with my account balance. That is when I became sure that GiveDireclty had sent me money. My mixed feelings immediately turned to happiness. I was, and still very happy about receiving this transfer."

"I never saw the Mpesa message at the time it was sent but only realized the next day in the morning at around 7 am as people were so excited and everyone was asking someone if they had received the money. That is when I went and checked my phone. I had received 55000 KES from GiveDirectly like the others too. I was so happy and immediately started to calculate on mind how I was going to spend the money. I lacked alot of things in my house and receiving this money meant that atleast almost all my problems were over."

"The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is lack of stable source of income. Since my husband passed away I mainly rely on casual labour that is not reliable and does not pay well, I hardly earn one hundred shillings a day. This has made it difficult for me to invest in farming or any other business. My children do not dress well like their neighbors and this makes me feel frustrated in life because I can not afford to take good care of my family. "

"The biggest hardship I have faced is lack of adequate financial resources to buy food and pay school fees for my children. This has forced them to skip lunch and stay home during school days.Seeing them hungry and at home during school hours makes me regret getting married to an irresponsible man and wish I had a well paying job to provide for them."

"My greatest desire is to educate my son who had to drop out of school due to lack of finances. Receiving this money will enable me to pay his school fees (approximately 20,000 shillings for the whole year) at a nearby secondary school. I am also planning on spending the remaining amount on buying a dairy cow worth 30,000 shillings. This will enable me to get additional income (from the milk I will sell) to facilitate my son's education in the future."

"The biggest hardship I have faced is lack of money to meet my family medical and food needs. The casual jobs that I do either cane cutting or weeding earn one hundred and fifty shillings only person day, this kind of cash cannot carter for the entire family budget, sometimes causing arguments in the family with the other gender complaining that I am not providing enough, this was the cause of my separation with my wife because she never appreciated my efforts. I hope finally the cash transfer that I am going to receive will fix my investment and peace shall be restored in my family."
