"Receiving this money means a relief from financial constraints for my family. Seeing my son through his illness has been my greatest desire that has never materialised due to financial constraints. With this money, I will set up a general shop that will serve my neighbours. With this, I foresee a situation where I will generate good profits and save for my son's treatment."

"My ambition is to buy a cow in the next six months. This will provide me with milk that hopefully will improve on my nutrition and cash flow as I shall sell surplus. I also intend to make some ghee that fetches well in our local markets. With increased sources of income, I will be reasonably liberated from the bondage of poverty."

"My life is different than it would have been If I never received money from GiveDirectly because I managed to buy a sewing machine which I use to make my own money. I used to rely on my husband for all my monetary needs but he was not able to achieve most of them. I am now glad that I can also raise some money through my tailoring work and support my husband for our household's needs."

"The moment I received my first cash transfer, I felt happy because my plan of buying a bull and acquiring additional land for crop cultivation had been sorted. Before I received my first cash transfer, I used to go begging for bulls in order to plough land which would some times happen very late hence poor yields."

"My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfer because I now own cows which is a sign of wealth and dignity in my community. I use to admire my neighbour's cow and wished to have my own. I am optimistic that my cows will reproduce to fill my shed and I will be able to sell more milk and earn more income. I also managed to renovate my house which had become so weak and even fixed glasses to my windows which had stayed without glasses for two years. I now live happily and have a better source of income which is quite dependable as compared to the past when I would work on people's farm and earn very little at the end of the day."

"My husband has been the bread winner of our family since we got married but due to engaging in strenuous casual labour like quarrying, he has ended up having spinal problems which has reduced him to just staying back at home and sleeping. I am also arthritic which means i struggle walking long distance in search for jobs that could earn me some money to fend for my family. This is the greatest challenge we are currently facing as a family"

"I expect my life to change in the next six months in that my family will not be going to the river to fetch water during the rainy season. I bought this tank recently and I have not used it since it has not rained. I will use it to store water during the rainy season and it will save my family the time they would have otherwise used going to fetch water and spend it on doing something else. I have been buying vegetables during the dry season and I believe that this will be different this year. I will be using this water to irrigate my vegetables during this season hence I will have enough supply for my family."
