"My life is different that it would have been if I never received these transfer in that, I now own a pair of oxen.I believe the oxen will ensure I get better harvests since I will be able to plant on time since they work faster compared to when I could hire casual laborers. Before, using hoes which was not very in efficient considering that I couldn't enlarge my scale of farming since I had to invest alot of time and energy . In addition to this,The goats that I have acquire will reproduce and as they multiply very fast and I can readily rely on them in case of a financial needs which includes paying school fees for my children."

Dama

"Relying on farming to take care of my family needs was very hard most so after the passing of my husband sometime last year. I had to take up all the responsibility of educating my children and providing for my family's needs which made me to sacrifice a lot because my income could barely sustain us. My bed was broke and I had to resort on sleeping at the floor with a slim old mattress for the sake of my children's education . With GiveDirectly transfer , I have been able to purchase a bed and mattress hence I am able to have enough rest. Secondly, Seeing my children realize their dreams makes a bigger difference in my life than the world to ever know."

Richard
received a $252 second payment.
"In the next six months, I expect to have started the plot development. I may not be in a position to make major changes then but piking the project will be a great leap. We are still hoping though that GiveDirectly would still come to this village with another project similar to the just ended one."

Wesley
received a $252 second payment.
"Alongside several projects I have been running, I have been working tooth and nail to ensure that my children go to school. Their school fees have been high but I am glad that in the next six months I expect a change since two of them will have completed their college studies. This sounds a relief for me since what I will be paying for the remaining few will not be as much as before. "

Martha
received a $525 second payment.
"Had it not for GiveDirectly, we wouldn't have gotten money to build the new house which is currently offering me comfort in terms of shelter and also cold.
On this time where the rains have been high, we usually face problems with our houses where we've been rained on, exposing us to adverse climatic conditions leading to diseases.
My life is now very different from how it was in those ages where we couldn't afford money to help built them. "

Caroline
received a $544 second payment.
"Had it not for the transfers from GiveDirectly, I wouldn't have bought chicken which are currently my main source of income. On weekly basis, I collect an amount of not less than Kes 800 through sale of eggs alone. I also recall that the money enabled me to pay school fees for my children who are in secondary school. This ensure that they are well kept in school, studying and concentrating in the exams.
Had it not for the money, I would still be faced with shortage /lack of food for the family. "

"Had it not for the transfers from GiveDirectly, I wouldn't have bought seats and tables. I had no money to help me realize this dream. I am happy that the money helped us in this big way.
I also recall that the money enabled me to pay school fees for my children who are in secondary school. This ensured that they are well kept in school, studying and concentrating in the exams. Once they pass, we expect that their lives would be better than ours. "

"I was living in a grass thatched house which was drizzling.

My sons now have their own rooms. Unlike before when they could sleep in the same room with their father, which was shameful, nowadays, they have own room. We are all happy for this milestone. "
