"I was already up for my day's tasks and I decided to check my phone's message inbox for any new message. As I went through, I came across a Mpesa message confirming that I had received KES55000 from GiveDirectly. I could not hold the joy that instantly filled my heart. Even as I went on with my daily chores, I couldn't stop thanking GiveDirectly for the fortune."

"I had the desire of starting livestock farming but couldn't due to limited resources. When I received my first transfer, I bought a cows and I am glad that my desires have been met. Had it not been for the financial help from GiveDirectly, then it would have taken many years to acquire them. I will be selling it's offsprings in case of a financial emergency as well as raising more money to finance my children's education. I am certain that I will also have milk for both household consumption and sales to earn an extra coin."

"The transfer from GiveDirectly has helped us in a big way. I used part of it in buying a cow together with its calf. I decided to buy a cow because I have been incurring the cost of buying milk. My children have hence been lacking enough milk for their consumption. I had some cows before but I had to sell them to pay school fees for my children. Paying school fees has always been a big challenge for us and we have been forced to do everything possible to clear them including selling part of our land. The transfer also helped me in paying for college fee arrears that my child had. I also gave part of the money to my daughter who has been living with me at home. She wanted some money to add to the one that she had so that she could buy a piece of land that she had always desired to have. She wanted the piece of land because she wanted to move to another place of her own and live there. The transfer also enabled me to buy some food that is, a bag of maize and a bag of rice for my family’s consumption. I was not in a position to do the above before especially to buy another cow because I didn’t have a large sum of money that was going to be needed to do so. I depend on small scale farming of growing and selling vegetables, tomatoes to earn a living. The money that I have been getting from this has mostly been going to the payment of school fees for the children and buying food."

"The transfer from GiveDirectly helped us in a big way that we had never imagined. We first gave out church tithes and with the remaining amount, we used it in other activities and developments that we had planned. We first decided to clear the school fees arrears that we had at school. Clearing the arrears had become a challenge for us to do because we owed the school a lot of money. After getting done with that, we decided to invest some of the money in the shop business that we have. We decided to do so that we can get more income in return that will hence help us with other things such as buying food. We also bought a calf with part of the transfer. Buying this calf is a way of securing money. We will take care of it and when it matures enough, we will sell it and use the money on important things such as paying school fees for our children. There was still a little bit of money left, and we decided to use it by buying a few clothes for our children. We were not in a position to do the above things before especially to clear the school fees arrears because we did not have the money to do so. My husband has a small business of buying and selling goats and as for me, I usually operate the shop business. The money that we get from the two businesses has mostly been going to the payment of school fees and buying food. We hence thank GiveDirectly because they came through for us at the time we needed money the most."

"I majorly depend on subsistence farming which has not been doing well enough to cater for both household daily needs and any other goal in the family. I have children in various schools and my biggest ambition is to see them prosper in their education to allow them to have a better life in the future. Raising their school fees is challenging for me due to the limited resources in our family. Currently, the biggest difference in my life is being able to clear my children's school fees since this assures me that they will have a good time in school to study thus I expect better results from them. With education, I feel my children's future is secured that why I thank GiveDirectly for the financial support that enabled me to educate my kids"

"It was my happiness receiving cash transfers from GiveDirectly since I had a lot of plans to undertake in life without the financial ability to execute them. I first took KES25000 to buy building materials that include building poles, iron sheets, nails and paid a carpenter to build me a kitchen. I am happy that this soon coming to be real once the carpenter gets time for me. As a way of investing, I used KES6400 to buy sheep and six hens as added assets on my farm. These are assets that I will always rely on and am assured they will grow and multiply making me richer. I took the remaining amount to spent on both household items, furniture and more so our family needs, clothing and daily food."
