"Receiving this money means food security. I am old and no longer economically active. My children fend for me most of the time. This is something am not proud of since they also have their families to feed. I planted maize which is our stable food but has not reached maturity. So when I receive this transfer I will purchase food and other food items and for the remaining amount, I intend to buy a water tank. Our source of water is from the river but I no longer have the energy to go and fetch water and besides it is not safe for drinking. This tank will enable me to access clean drinking water."

"Raising school fees for my undergraduate studies is a challenge I am currently facing. When I completed grade 12 in 2012, I began being independent since I could no longer rely on my widowed mother who was also struggling from her end. I sort a job as a PTA teacher in a nearby primary school that pays me KES 7000 a month. Since this income is dependant on how the parents clear the fees arrears, the school can even stay for up to 3 months for the payment to be initiated hence I have nothing to save towards my school fees. It pains me that I have to work longer to be able to raise my school fee arrears and be able to graduate thus be financially stable."

"We are currently facing lots of financial constraints since my husband is repaying some loans that we acquired from local lenders. He is bringing home only a quarter of his salary, something that has forced us to forego some basic needs and demands."

"Because of prolonged drought in this area, getting clean water that is safe for domestic use is a challenge. As a woman, it is my responsibility to ensure that there is enough water for domestic use in the homestead. Every morning, I cover 10 kilometers in search of this commodity, and because I do not own a donkey I have to carry it on my back with a 20-liter jerrican. I do 3-4 trips in a day because once is never enough. This not only leaves me exhausted but also with chest pains that last for days."

"I am a widow with a family of five children. My spouse died five years ago and left all the responsibilities of taking care of the children on me. The house he left us collapsed and I had to build a small single roomed house. This house is too small to accommodate my five children. This has forced them to borrow shelter from neighbours which is very dangerous and risky especially when it rains at night as they have to walk one hundred metres at night to the next homestead. My dream has always been to own a two bedroom house that is spacious enough to accommodate my family. However, due to financial challenges, this has never come true. I depend on selling local brew which earns me a profit of KES 100 a day. This is not enough to meet my basic needs as every coin I earn is solely used to buy food only. Receiving this money will be a dream come true for me. I will use KES 50000 to build my house then use the second transfer to pay school fees for my children."

"I lost my job in may last year due to redundancy. Since then ,I have ventured into subsistence farming so as to keep myself busy and also earn income from it. I am jubilant knowing that this transfer will boost my agricultural vision. Receiving this money means financial independence to me and my family of 7. I plan on using KES 37,000 to purchase a dairy cow to add on the one I have. This will increase milk production in two years time hence a direct increase source of income and reliability."

"Inadequate finance in my house has been the challenge. I am a housewife and my hubby works as a cattle herder in a nearby village. The monthly salary he earns is three thousand Kenya shillings which serve us on food only. It has been hard to save to build a better house and pay school fees for my kids. Almost all the time are staying at home, this makes me unhappy seeing them missing classes while others are learning."
