"The biggest difference in my daily life is the relaxed atmosphere within the household that has given me an open mind to focus not only on the school fees clearance but also on other income-generating projects. This has enhanced a better savings routine with the informal saving group that I joined. I am glad that the casual labor I had been doing can earn me some amount that goes directly to the savings account."

"I bought 20 bags of cement at KES 13000 which I am planning to use to plaster my house. I had constructed a brick house but I ran out of cash so occupied it while it was halfway. Knowing that I already have enough materials to complete it makes me so excited. We do not have a reliable source of income and finishing the house was not in our plans. Am grateful to Give Directly for coming to our rescue. I also paid for my children's primary school fee of KES 1700 so that they could go back to school because they were at home for the fee at that time. I have saved KES 27000 which is to cater for the plastering labor and other expenses which might come up in the plastering process. Part of the money I spent on various foodstuffs for my family."

"The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving the transfers is the ease in meeting my family's needs without owing anyone any debt. I am a substance farmer but due to poor climatic conditions, we normally get low farm produce that can not take us for half a year. In most cases, I would be forced to borrow from some of my friends and neighbors in order to meet my family's needs, and on several occasions, we would rely on a meal per day or at times none. I am glad that my children are currently in school, and they are able to have three meals in a day."

"The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving the payments is having something to look up to whenever I wake up in the morning. Previously I did not have any plans whenever I woke up and in most cases, I would stay idle. Currently, I have my livestock to keep me busy hence I feel productive at the end of the day."

"I bought two oxen at KES 26000 with part of the first transfer for rearing. Now that I have the oxen I will be able to plow my farm on time and plant at the right time. At the same time, I will be earning income from them since I will be plowing my neighbor's farms at a fee. My children had stayed at home for three weeks because they had not paid the school fee for the whole of that term. I, therefore, spent KES 5000 on both school fee and their school uniform to replace the torn ones that they had outgrown. Am also planning to construct a new house because the current one has a leaking roof while the walls have been washed off by the rains making it risky to stay in. I have therefore bought construction poles with part of the money. A portion of the money I spent on foodstuffs for the family."

"The transfer has brought a very big difference in our lives as a family. We were able to accomplish the plans that we had always had but due to a lack of money, we had not managed to achieve. We were able to clear the school fee balances for our two children who are in secondary school and hence they were no longer sent home due to arrears. We were also able to place the ceiling board on our house and we bought a calf which is going to be of great help to us in future. May God bless you so much GiveDirectly for the help."

"I would use the money to buy iron sheets because my house leaks with the grass roof. I would also se it to buy maize because I struggle with casual work to get food. I also wish I had a good comfortable place to sleep on on so I would buy mattress and blankets with the remaining money."

"Imagine having to walk for 12 kilometers to look for water only to come back with a 20 ltr jerican? That's how life has been for us for two years now due to prolonged drought. Lucky are those who are blessed to have bysicle because they can carry at least three to four jericans per trip. My goals have always been buying a bysicle to save my wife and children from struggles carrying heavy jericans on their back for long distance as well as build another house so that we can have privacy as parents and stop struggling for space in one roomed house which we share with our four children. So far, these goals have been achieved as spend Ksh 22000 to build a semi permanent single room which I have already moved in, Ksh 8000 to buy a bysicle and Ksh 12000 to pay school fees for my children. I have been spending the balance to provide food and basic needs for my family. I am so grateful for the support."
