"Previously, I used to get income from transporting goods using a hand cart at Awasi which is our nearby village market. The post-election clashes destroyed this handcart and from that day life was cruel because feeding ten members of my family were difficult. Therefore there were those days we could sleep hungry and my children stayed home due to school arrears with this hard my spouse couldn't bear hence and we had regular household conflict. My life is different in that I have cultivated the leased land which I am certain of enough yields at the end of this harvesting; I will sell the surplus and also feed my family with ease. My dairy cow which I bought with the part the transfer will have reproduced in future thus buying milk like I am doing it currently would not be the issue. I will save the money to meet other additional needs for my family and this will bring peace and a happy family like before."

"The major difference for me is the cow that I bought few months ago. Were it not for the cash transfers I do not think I would have made such an achievement. With no source of income, it is very impossible to buy a cow like I did."

"My life is different in that I have enough water for household and livestock use and I no longer walk for long distance to fetch water hence I can spend most of my time in my farm. The water is also clean and has reduced the risk of getting water borne diseases. I also have enough milk for my family since I used part of my transfers to buy a dairy cow. In the past , I have been buying milk and this was costly and I can now save the money that I could have used to buy milk and use to meet other family basic needs. I also sell the surplus milk to earn an income. Thank you Give Directly for the cash transfers."

"The difference in my life is enormous. I eat well and never miss any meals as before. I feel stronger and healthier in that I stocked enough food and is never worried on where the next meal could come from. I bought a bed, a new mattress and two blankets that have made my sleep enjoyable and comfortable. I do have sweet dreams unlike before when I used to sleep on a mart with torn blanket. I bought chairs and no longer sit on the floor. I bought a cow and four sheep. The cow will eventually provide me with milk and ghee that will improve on my family's food security. I also intend to sell the surplus and use the money to buy more cows. I shall use their droppings for manure and this will save me from budgeting for fertilizer. The human dignity in me has been uplifted in that I don't feel ashamed when visitors come and even church members whom I fellowship with. I have prepared my farms and planted maize and beans which will form part of the food security in my household when we harvest. I look smart in my new clothes which I bought with the transfers and does not walk in rags that could make some people confuse me to me mentally challenged. Thanks to GiveDirectly for giving us hope and life worth living."

"My life is different in that I am now a serious poultry farmer where I have been able to save up enough money from the poultry project. I can always sell the eggs and meet any financial needs that arise within the family. The poultry project has seen me meet most of my family's needs without relying on my husband entirely. We also have an additional dairy cow that is due to have its first calf. We are definitely going to live a better life than we have lived before in that we can meet most of the family's basic needs and even get enough money to save up."

"With GD transfers, I have been able to buy two cows which are an investment for my family. With these cows, I can be able to sell them to raise money to pay school fees for my children or other family financial emergencies. If they reproduce before I sell them, I will be able to sell milk and raise some income to solve family needs. If all goes well, I will have herds of cattle which has always been my dream."
