Mary
received a $23 sixteenth payment.
"My new goal for the next four money is to save some money to pay school fees for my sons who are joining college this year. It has always been my prayer to see my children become successful people in the future and this will be futile without education. I believe that my children will have a bright future since the knowledge and skills they will acquire while studying in college will be helpful to them in securing a job or in starting up a business."

Florence
received a $442 second payment.
"My life is different in that, I have been in position to pay school fees for the whole year for my daughter who is in senior four. I strongly believe that she is going to perform well because she has enough time to revise. In addition, I'm to buy a cow in 5 days time from now that will help me with future education of my children and milk. Before receiving this transfer, my children were often sent home for school fees which affected their performance."

Esther
received a $442 second payment.
"My standards of living have improved recently because I have managed to repossess my land which I used to acquire a loan for taking me to hospital when I was hit with a strange disease which made my legs swell. I was helpless to extent that, they could carry me outside to bath, short and long calls. Secondly, I have used these transfers to hire more farmland especially in the swamp which I have ventured into rice growing to generate income. Finally, these transfer enabled me enroll my child into secondary education. Previously, I owned a very small portion of land which could not produce enough crops to sustain my family. In addition, without these transfer I could have managed to take my child to school because I did not have any money to pay school fees."

Currently my life is different because I no longer have stress looking for school fees since I managed to clear fees for two terms. Kipkirui
received a $23 sixteenth payment.
"The biggest step I have made in my life is joining college. People in this village rarely go college because education has not been given much value. Most people think millions of people have certificates but still won't get employed because employment opportunities are few. Therefore they opt to invest in agriculture instead. I tend to have a different opinion about having an education and getting employed that is why I still tried hard to go to college. I must say I managed to go to college with the help I got from Give Directly."

"When I was first told of the coming transfers, Ideas on how to spend started flowing in my mind. Some of the plans were so big and abstract that the monthly transfer I was to receive would not have accommodated. Even though I knew that they were too big, I never stopped putting them down with the hope that I will one day see them accomplished. Since the transfer came I have managed to pick on some while completing the ones which were simpler but there is this one project that has seen me look like any other well and able guys in the society. This has brought a very big difference in my daily life and even in the lives of my other family members - seeing my children school without being disturbed for not paying school fees. We agreed with my wife that before we spend the money on anything else, we ensure that we pay and clear all the school fees areas and that came to pass. It has been my greatest dream to see my children attend all the lessons in school, unlike the times when we could all stay at home, being tempted to drag them to work with us in the casual labor which I think it was against their rights to education but we had to. Thanks to GiveDirectly for elevating us and bringing us hope once more."

"Education has been my key desire that i can invest to my children. This aspiration has been faced with many challenges that has forced my elder son to venture into brick making despite having attained a mean grade of a B- (minus) in his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education. Since I have no reliable source of income to support my second son in school, I am forced to supply firewood at the school so that, his fee is deducted from my pay. With my first priority being education, receiving this money means achieving my life goal by paying school fee for my son. Since my husband is still energetic, he will use part of the transfers to invest in livestock business in order to have a reliable source of income that will support my son's education and other family needs. Hence, this is what receiving this money means to me."
