"My long life desire has been to own a businees that can sustain my family's basic needs. This aspiration has never come through because my job as a food vendor is not reliable as at today. I am forced to depend most on my husband who is doing a part time work as a carpenter. His income is not sufficient enough to cater for our family needs. Receiving this money means providing capital for my business and also enable my husband to start his own workshop. These businesses will be our reliable sources of income that can support our family's basic needs like food and education. I also plan to buy one cow for milk production, to supplly within the village. This will supplement our income and hence, this is basically what receiving this money means to me."

"I would like so much to own a piece of land where I will plant crops for subsistence use and sell the surplus to get money. This will be my first priority when I receive the transfers. On this same piece of land I will rear a dairy cow which I do not have for now and start dairy farming."

John
received a $522 second payment.
"I spent part of my second transfer on fencing my compound. Fencing it had brought a lot of peace because it has enabled me to start a poultry farming project. I had yeared to have something that I could depend on for a long time but it was not possible because of financial constraints. Today I have my poultry farming running, my birds are safe and they have not trespassed into someone's compound which I was worried about before starting the project. The demand of the hens are high and I have so far sold some of them which have really helped in taking care of my needs easily. I am grateful because I have not been depending on casual jobs so much which is unreliable but concentrated on my new business. I also bought a dairy cow for milk production. Apart from that, I also leased land which I have already planted. I had a small piece of land where I could plant a few crops which could not last as for more than three months. I know that in this harvesting season I will enjoy more produce that will help us cut the cost of buying food now and then."

Judy
received a $523 second payment.
"There is a really big difference in my life now that I received the transfers. I have really improved a great deal something I would not have gotten any money to facilitate the changes. What I have now would not have been there if not for the transfers. Right from clothing for the whole family, the growing cows, poultry project, furniture just to mention but a tiny few are some of the great things GiveDirectly has done in my life."

"Subsistence farming is my main source of livelihood but it is not sustainable because of inconsistent rainfall. To supplement this, I burn charcoal but still it is not enough. Having a stable source of income is something that I have always desired to achieve. In this regard, I will purchase two dairy cows that will mean a constant milk supply in my village. Besides, I will renovate my house which has a leaking roof and damaged walls. "

"Owning livestock is a dream that I have always wished to come true. However, it has been like a fairy tale to me because I do not have the money to purchase them. From my earnings I have to prioritize between food and investment where the former always win. To achieve my dream, I will use the transfer to purchase cows and goats for rearing. This will make my transfer useful because they will multiply and give me returns in future."

Edina
received a $22 sixteenth payment.
"Purchasing a cow in our home which we are now rearing rejuvenated our energies towards working hard. Nowadays we have plans which we are hopeful that they will be accomplished with time. An additional goal that we have now is to purchase a large water tank. We have been working long distances to fetch water which has never been easy. Now that we have a cow becomes even harder and it's been our hope that we make an initiative to own a water reservoir since our area has been raining a lot of late. This water will be collected and used in serving all the domestic purposes."

"After purchasing the piece of land, we are still struggling as a family to see that we start other projects now that we are still receiving the transfers. The additional goal for the next four months will God's willing be to purchase a good breed of cow. We are still saving through the merry-go-round and soon we are hopeful that when our turn comes the contribution will be enough to obtain a good breed."

Joseph
received a $22 sixteenth payment.
"My life is currently different from how it was four months ago in that I now own three goats. I am hopeful that by taking care of them with a lot of care, I will enjoy the fruits of my labor. This is because the goats will reproduce and increase in number. In addition, I believe I will earn an extra income by buying a dairy cow to replace some of the goats. The surplus milk from the dairy shall be used for my family's consumption and the wastes used as manure to increase the productivity of my farm."
