"The biggest difference in my life since I started receiving these transfers is that I have a new iron-roofed house. Before the transfers, I used to live in a grass thatched house which was too small and I had a family too. It was a shame since most people in the village had iron-roofed houses yet I was in a grass thatched house. I had desired to have an iron-roofed house just like my peers so that I don't look poorer in the village. I was not able to get the house because my family needs were surpasing my income. I am glad GD helped me achieve the dream which I was almost giving up on."

"My life is really different at the moment. I was among the poorest people in the village before receiving the transfer. My children were malnutritioned, they walked barefooted and wore torn clothes. On top of that, the house that I lived in was too small and the roof was leaking. I also did not own a cow of my own. At the moment life is really great courtesy of the transfer. My children are well clothed and well fed. I also own a dairy cow whose milk has helped reinstate the state of health of my children. I also built a bigger house with transfers and we now sleep comfortably."

"My life has changed in that, I am happy because I sleep in an iron roofed house. Earlier on, I used to sleep in a leaky grass thatched house, whereby, when it rained, I had to fold my bedding until it stops."

"My life has changed alot in that I have built a two roomed iron roofed house. This is an achievement which I never thought I could ever accomplish. Previously, I would get stressed because of financial limitations. I could not afford to buy grass yearly so as to rennovate my hut. The cash transfers were a blessing for me to start anew. I am now happy staying in my iron roofed house. "

"My life has changed alot because the cash transfers enabled me to construct a three roomed iron roofed house. We are now living happily and comfortably. In the past, I had to struggle with the search for grass to thatch our two huts. It proved very expensive and cumbersome. I am very grateful because the cash transfers got that burden off my shoulders."

"The biggest difference in my daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer is that my heart is always at peace and stress free. I now live in a more decent house. The previous one was in a bad state. The roof used to leak whenever it rained and the walls had become so weak and could collapse any time. We used to squeeze ourselves in that small house but that did not last long before we moved to a more decent house which I have been building using part of my transfers. My family now lives in an iron sheet roofed house. I was able to use my last transfers to buy these iron sheets and and I always pray asking God to continue blessing GiveDirectly whenever I am sleeping."

"I have two wives who lived under the same roof. It is hectic as they kept fighting each other because of petty misunderstandings. The younger wife kept pressurizing me to build her a house. When I received this transfer, I used it to buy building materials i.e.iron sheets, nails, poles and timber to build a new house for my second wife as she did not have her own house. I also bought livestock i.e goats for rearing as a form of financial security for my family. My child was sent away from school to clear school fees arrears so I used part of it to clear the outstanding balance."

"Before I received my transfers from GiveDirectly, I was living in a small leaky grass-thatched house in my father's compound. However, with the support I received, I have established my home and built a spacious iron-roofed house where we currently live in peacefully. In addition, I have an adequate space within my home where I have begun to keep some livestock. From the motorbike, I have been able to make some extra income thus I am always able to support my family better than I could do before. I thank GiveDirectly for the support it accorded us."
