"I am staying in a house that is almost collapsing, the walls have big cracks thus it is not safe for a human being. I have been endearing my life by staying their simply because I have nowhere to go. My new or additional goal for my life for the next four months is to build a better house, I am planning to build a better house that is iron roofed."

"Living in a decent and safe house has been my greatest desire. The one I am currently living in is in a deplorable state - the roof is leaking and parts of the wall already carved in. Receiving this money, therefore, means a safe and conducive shelter for me. Additionally, I intend to further my farming practice by investing in oxen which will facilitate easy and timely cultivation. As a maize farmer, I am also late in planting due to lack of sufficient labor as everything depends on me. Consequently, this has led to produce yields every year, but am optimistic this will be something of the past once I receive my transfers.,"

"I used all of my recent transfer to build a new house. I was living in a very small grass thatched house and all along I have been thinking of building a bigger and better house. When GiveDirectly transfers came, I made a conscious decision to build a timber walled house that is roofed of iron sheets. I am happy that this is nearing completion and I am eagerly waiting for the second transfer to be able to actualize this plan."

"My new or additional goal for my life for the next four months is to build a better house. I am staying in a grass-roofed house that is leaking when it rains and this is the reason why I am striving very hard to build an ironed roof house to solve this problem."

"Before, we used to live in a small grass-thatched house which was hardly enough to accommodate all of us. Our lowest moments were during the rainy seasons. We did not enjoy the peace that comes with having a roof over our heads since that house had its roof leaking. Currently, the biggest difference is evidently seen in my daily life since I live in a decent house. Although I earn from manually jobs in the village, I no longer struggle as much to make ends meet doing two jobs in a day in order to save for the construction of a house like before but rather work to earn money which is enough for the provision of my family's daily needs."

"I used part of my first transfer to build a new house. The house that we were staying in was so small and grass thatched and had its roof leaking. This had got me thinking of building a new house but I had not been able to actualize this dream since the little income that I got was only enough to feed the family and make ends meet. On receiving this transfer, I took the house as a first priority and I am happy that the new building is already complete and we have since moved in. I also used part of the money to pay school fees for my child who is in secondary school. She had huge school fees arrears which I never thought would have been cleared anytime soon but I was extremely grateful and happy to pay her school fees and for once give her ample time to be in school uninterrupted and hopefully give us good results. The remaining amount of money was used to buy food and other basic household need for the family."

"In the next six months, I plan to plaster my house. My first priority was to put up a permanent house but since I did not have the money for it, I have decided to have a semi-permanent one. Now that I built a good iron-roofed, mud-walled house the one things I need are cement and sand for plastering the house. This is why I have plans of saving part of my monthly transfers so that I can buy such building materials for plastering the house. I know in the next six months, I will have saved the required amount for the materials and even to pay the mason who will do that job. I am glad GD will help me get where I could not get on my own."

"I spent 45,000 KES of my second transfer on building a new house. Now that I have a decent iron sheet house I will no longer have to walk a long distance to far villages in search of grass because of late grass is scarce due to climate change which makes the repair of grass thatch roof difficult causing leakage when it rains . I also paid school fees for my child who is in secondary school with the remaining amount ."

"In the next four months, I plan to buy building materials which I want to use in building a new house. The one I have has been invaded by termites eating the woods on the roof and I fear in the coming rainy season, the wind might blow away the roof. This is why I have decided to start planning for a new one before I lose the one I have."

"My life will be different in the next six months in that I will have built a new house. Currently, the house I am living in has a rusty roof and leaking as well. It is a house I built four years ago and because I did not have much resources and income, I have not been able to build a new house nor even repair it. I first wanted to invest my transfers because I would not be happy staying in a good house without food. After ensuring I have a stable food supply, I now want to build a decent house. Therefore I will use part of my monthly transfers to buy building materials for putting up the house. I know in the next six months I will have raised enough money to buy the materials needed to put up the house."
