"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have bought a water tank. I used to walk for quite a long distance to collect clean water water for domestic use. This was so tiresome and time consuming. Due to my age I was not able to go to the river more than two times a day. I had always wished to own a water tank but I didn't had the money. I depend on small scale farming and the harvest that we get through this is so small and only for consumption. I didn't had surplus to sell. Currently I have a 5,000 liters water tank. I no longer get stressed up. I can access clean water for drinking and for domestic used. I give to my goats to drink. I have saved so much time to spend on the farm cultivating .I am so happy because GiveDirectly has enabled me to own this. It could have taken quite some time to get it."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that my children now own some assets as I was able to buy each one of them a goat. This has made them so happy and this brings satisfaction to me as a parent. They had always persuaded me to buy for them goats or even chicken so that they will later use in supporting their education but I had not been able to due to lack of money. Being able to grant them their request has changed my daily life as I am at peace with myself."

"I have always had a dream of going back to school and pursue a Health-related course as I was not able to proceed to college after completing my secondary school education studies. Finances have been my major challenge as I have had no one to support me. When I received my transfer, I purchased a dairy cow and two goats and I am planning to spend my second transfer to pay for my school fees as I have already received an admission letter. With the assets that I was able to purchase, I am optimistic that I will be able to complete my studies without many struggles. I will be using money from the sale of milk to pay for my house rent while in school and sometimes sell one of the goats after they have increased in number. I am glad and thankful to God and GiveDirectly for enabling me to start a journey towards my success."

"I am a single mother of three who works as a casual laborer at Olerai Farm. My firstborn son did well in his Secondary Education and joined Embu University in the year 2019. Due to his efforts, I have been doing my best as a parent to ensure that I pay his school fees on time. He requires KES 40000 per year and this has been a great struggle for me because my income is KES 6000 per month. Moreso my family allocated me a small piece of land enough to build my small hat and hence I do not have a place to cultivate. This money will enable me to complete a whole year fee for my son who is in his third year in University and I shall be able to save enough amount from my casual job to buy some dairy goats ."

"Receiving this money means I'll be able to finish up constructing and equipping the house I started eight months ago. I would like to do some finishing, put a nice ceiling and cement the floor. Before building this one, we have been staying in one small grass-thatched house which was quiet to accommodate my family of three and visitors. This will cost me approximately KES 40,000. The rest of the money, I plan to invest in buying sheep and goats so that as my children grow up to join the school, I can sell them to pay school fees."

"Receiving this money would mean an eased burden on school fee payment for my children, better housing and acquired asset for me. In my life I have never known of a decent house, I have lived a life of continuous suffering ever since I was young. The house I lived with my parents before I got married was grass thatched and we could live with chicken and goats under the same roof. Coming to my own house also the conditions remained the same. I never went to school because my parents did not value education especially that girls and it hurts me to date. That's why am currently struggling to educate my children. I have sold whatever I could to pay school fees for them and currently there's no asset under my name that's why I would like to purchase cattle."

"I fully depend on my husband since I do not have any source of income. Receiving this money will help me start an income generating activity so as to support my husband provide for the family. I plan to start a poultry unit where I can keep chicken for sale and also get eggs for sale. I will start by building a structure at a cost of around KES 5,000 and buying 10 chicken at a cost of KES 5,000 as well. I also plan to spend KES 50,000 to start goat keeping. I will buy 10 goats for a start. From the goats, I can get money to start other projects especially when they multiply."
