"My life would have been very different if it were not to GD's support. We were living in grass-thatched yet mad wall house. At night we used a kerosene lamp and other occasions what to eat was a problem. But this has changed since, after the second transfers, we made electricity connections, build a bricked house with an iron roof and have invested in livestock keeping."

"To be sincere If I would not have received the transfers, I would not have built a house. From my daily expenditure and compared to my income there is nothing left to save or invest. I was living from hand to mouth and I had not dreamt of owning a brick and iron-roofed house but GD has made this possible. I would have lived in the same conditional for God knows how long."

"I now have a decent and iron roofed house that I built using the transfer. I would not have managed at my own cost considering my lowly financial status. I feel I have upgraded to another stage of life since it had been just a dream building a new home. I also have a pair of oxen which I believe is going to be helpful in making my farming productive. I also invested a larger portion of the transfer to build my sons business since it has been our only source of income. I purchased enough stock from which we are expecting a higher profit margin. This income has been and will be important in fulfilling my household basic needs effectively."

"If I had never received this support, then it would have taken me years to build a decent house, since I could not buy any of the materials like iron sheets and building poles. This means I would still be living in that small house that was in a pathetic condition up to now. Also I would not have purchased any livestock which to people like us with no source of income are valuable assets that one can own. I now have a decent iron roofed house and also cows to rear which I believe they will reproduce in the future and help me in case of a financial need."

"I was really troubled since I could not raise my children's school fees timely. Had it not been GiveDirectly's financial support, then my children's studies would have been interrupted severally. The money has helped me to pay for them timely and this has given me a peace of mind because I can now prepare to raise for the next terms fees. Also, I am now living in a decent iron roofed house, courtesy of GiveDirectly. Lastly I also own a cow that I am keeping in my homestead. Soon I will be getting milk from it for my family's consumption."

"I never imagined that I would ever build a better house anytime soon were it not for Give Directly. I used to have a made wall house with a grass touched roof which was leaking. I used to pray that one day that I shall build a new one but now I have a good house which is more spacious. "

"Many things have happened in my life since I started receiving the transfer from GiveDirectly which have really changed my life. The biggest difference so far is the joy of living in a new house after a length of time staying in a grass thatched-house which was too small to accommodate all the members of my household. We had been facing a lot of challenges especially my children who were sleeping on the floor under a leaking roof since the room was too small for more than one bed. Visiting hospital due to the common cold was a usual occurrence due to the cold nights but currently we are all sleeping in a warm house with better bedding after construction of a new one and purchasing new furniture."

"I spent my second transfer to buy a dairy cow worth KES 25000 so that when it reproduces, I will be earning income through milk sales. Also, I spent some amount to make my house more presentable. I painted the roofs and fixed the ceiling. I spent the remaining amount to buy some clothes for myself."

"I had a small old grass thatched house before we GiveDirectly came to our village. My kitchen was slowly wearing out, grass had started peeling off as well as walls cracking but I could not change the situation due to lack of enough resources. When I received my second transfer, I used KES30000 to build an iron roofed kitchen and another one for my sons. I bought an heifer worth KES10000 as a way of investing part of the transfer. I spent the remaining on my household daily basic needs."

"Like other GiveDirectly beneficiaries, I own livestock, decent iron-roofed house among other assets that I wouldn't have managed at my own. Being given a chance to decide on how to spend the transfer was an idea to celebrate. I feel GiveDirectly has done best at most fair way possible and I don't have anything against their operations."
