"I spent part of my first transfer on buying some building materials such as iron sheets, timber and nails. This was purposely for the renovation of my house since it had a leaky roof. During the rainy seasons, we used to seek shelter from neighbours which were so frustrating. I later bought a pair of oxen and an ox plough worthy of KES 39000. With the reming amount of money, I paid school fees for my children and bought decent clothes and a mattress since they have been using an old mat as beddings."

"I had began constructing a new spacious house but due to inadequate financial resources, I could not complete it. The previous house was in a bad state, it was leaking and almost collapsing. I had to wait as I look for finances to buy the remaining materials which include timber, iron sheets and nails. I am grateful to GiveDirectly because I would have have waited for months had I not received the transfer. I managed to buy all the remaining materials and my house is now complete. I also paid for the labour involved. I am now living in my new iron roofed house, which makes it to be the biggest difference in my daily life."

"The biggest difference in my daily is that I managed to construct t a decent spacious house. This has been my dream house for quite a long time but could not afford it because the materials were so expensive and I had some other household needs to cater for. The previous one was a traditional house with some grass-thatched roofing. In every winter season, I had to seek shelter from relatives and in the summer I could sometimes attack by some harmful animals. Also since the house was small, I had to keep my properties under the tree and this made most of them being stolen by unknown people. After the completion of our house, this problem was solved. I am glad that we now stay comfortable and my children have ample space and time. This makes me hopeful and happier because it's an assurance that they will improve in their academic perfomance."
