"I am really grateful for being considered in this program. I have been struggling to make both ends meet. My child is in form 1 and I have been struggling to pay his school fees. With the money, I will be able to pay the school fees. I will use part of the money to buy blackets, some bags of fertilizer. My house is also very small and i am planning of building a bigger house with iron sheets on its roof. I will also buy some bags of maize for food processing."

"In my opinion, GiveDirectly does so well by empowering every household in our village. This is evident since the majority of us now have spacious iron-roofed houses unkie before whereby they were small grass-thatched huts. Also, no one of us owned livestock but for now, almost all households have quite a number of them. Which has made us even proud becasue we are certain our future shall be brighter."

"My life is now different than before because through the transfers I managed to construct two houses, that is for my children and mine. Initially, we used to shelter under a very small house which couldn't accommodate some of the family members also the roofing was too old. I had the dream of construing a decent spacious one but I couldn't afford because buying the necessary materials was very expensive. Therefore we used to seek shelter from our friends which absolutely stressful. Life was unbearable and we and hoped for a financial breakthrough that would at least end what we were encountering. I am glad now because we are all big under one roof. In addition to that, I am now sleeping on nice beddings and I no longer complain of back pains."

"My life is different than how it would have been had I not received the transfer because I have been able to build a spacious house for my family. I never thought that I would ever achieve this in my entire. The roof to the house we used to live before was always leaking during the rainy season and our clothes would at times be soaked with rain water. Also, because of the transfers, I was able to purchase a welding machine. As a result, my daily income has started to increase since I now work for myself."

"My life is different than how it would have been had I not received the transfer because I now live in an iron roofed house unlike before. Due to this, I can also harvest rain water for domestic purposes during the rainy season. Also, it will enable me have some time to concentrate on other things instead of going to the river to fetch water. Building of an iron roofed house is an achievement to me since I will not be going through the stress of moving things in my house from one place to another during the rainy season due to leaking roof."

"After receiving the first transfer, 30000KES went to the construction of a new house. This was to replace the old hut we had been living in for the past 10 years now. It was leaking on the roof in the rainy seasons, and the dusty floor has never been good for my children who had been spreading their bedding on the floor every night. I also managed to clear school fees for kids with 5000KES, and the remaining amount on buying them clothing and foodstuff."

"Upon receiving the transfer, the construction of a new house; spacious enough for my family came first. I made it to put up a decent structure with three spacious rooms, one being the children's room. This was one expensive project since I had to source everything including woods and also paid labor. It was so important for us since we were living in a dilapidated hut with a decaying roof. The walls were not any better too as the crevices were getting wider and were no longer healthy for the kids due to the sneaking cold at night. I also spent the last 5000KES on school fees for my lastborn son."

"In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well since it has been of great help to my village making transforming our lives positively. This is clearly seen especially on the houses we own now, they are all iron-roofed, unlike the previous ones which were grass thatched and mud-walled. Their condition was for sure not pleasing but for now, everything has changed. Also, I do not see any part that GD failed us."

"My life is different than how it would have been because I am now sheltering in a decent shelter. I have been yearning to own a better house but because of the high poverty level, I couldn't buy the materials even renovate it. Its roof was in bad condition and could leak excessively especially in the winter seasons. Also, some of my children had to seek some shelter every night considering they were all grown-ups, and squeezing ourselves in the small house was not right according to our traditions. There is a huge relief now because we are all sheltering under one roof which has been my long-time dream. We no longer have to worry about the rains and even the heavy downpours."

"I spent part of my second transfer on buying some building materials such as 24 pieces of iron sheet, building poles, timber and several nails. This was to construct a new one becasue the previous one was very small and with a leaky roof. Also, I hired someone to prepare my farm since it was the planting season. At least there was a relief in that particular season. Also with the remaing amount of money, I brought enough food that would take us to the next harvesting season, some decent clothes for my children"
