"When I heard about Give Directly, I spoke to my sisters-in-law. My idea was to get together and start table banking. Most of us want to buy livestock but the money required is quite a lot. If we give one of us a total of KES 10,000 monthly from the contributions, they can be able to buy three or four goats, depending on the size. In ten months, all of us will at least have some livestock to show. From there, I can start using my transfers to rebuild my house and also buy food for myself comfortably."

"We spent most of the transfer money on buying a cow. We bought it at KES 40000. Buying the cow was our biggest priority upon receiving the transfers since we didn't have one. So due to that, we usually incur the cost of purchasing milk on a daily basis. We usually buy a litre at KES 50 and this amount of milk is only enough to prepare tea for the whole family of six. We used to have some cows but we had to sell them to get money for paying school fees for our three children who were then in secondary school. They have since completed their studies but we still have one who is still in secondary school. As a result, we are not yet off the hook when it comes to school fee payment which has always been our biggest challenge. I have a business of selling water and the money that I make from it is what I use in paying school fees for the child. We have hence not been able to purchase another cow since we didn't have the money. So when GiveDirectly came in with the program, we saw an opportunity to achieve our dream. We now hence no longer incur the cost of buying milk like before. Other than buying the cow, we also bought a goat at KES 4000, paid remedial classes fee for the child, and my husband used part of it to buy a mobile phone for himself. With the remaining amount of money, we used it in buying food and clothes for ourselves. Thank you so much GiveDirectly for the support."

"I spent KES 8000 of my transfer to purchase proper beddings for the family. Previously, we were spending our nights on the floor something that make my life miserable. I was constantly feeling backache. In addition, I spent KES 15000 to invest in goat rearing by purchasing 5 goats. I will be able to sell the offspring once they reproduce to cater for any financial crisis. I also used KES 13,000 to support my kid's education one in secondary and 8 others in primary school. The remaining amount assisted me in purchasing food and water since we are experiencing drought."

"I am a peasant farmer growing maize for my household's consumption. I was using the old method of farming of using hands and hoe which is characterized by low harvest. I had wished to improve my farming by purchasing oxen and an ox-plough. Therefore, after receiving the transfer, I used KES 40,000 to acquire oxen and ox-plough. I also spent KES 10,000 to invest in starting goat rearing by buying 4 goats. This is my long-term investment to sell the offspring to support me in any emergency. I also used the remaining amount to purchase food and paid part of my kid school fee"

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am a proud owner of livestock more so a dairy cow and goats. This is what has been my desire to own for year's but due to my financial constraints, I could not afford it. My spouse passed on so many years ago and my elder son had to pick the role of being the family breadwinner since I am old. It has however been very hard for him to fulfill all our needs. Therefore I had to think of a perfect asset that will make all these problems come to an end. I am hopeful that with the goats once they increase in number I will be able to sell some and settle all the household bills that we have been straining in resolving. Also with the dairy cow, I will soon be seeking milk that goes for KES 50 a liter and I will be saving the money for my grandchildren's schooling. I am so grateful to GiveDirectly for bringing a positive impact to my family."

"For a long time I have been sick, suffering from chest problem which was as a result of prolonged charcoal making business. Even the day I received the money I was on bed ailing. Upon withdrawing the money, I used a bigger percentage in my medication and I thank God I am now doing well. For the remaining amount, I bought a bed, 3 goats and some food stuff."
