"When I withdrew the second transfer, I bought a bicycle for KES 5000.00. This bicycle was to aid my family in fetching some water as well as being used by my children as a means of transport for going to school; this is because their school is a bit far from where we live. For quite some time they have been in the list of reaching to school late but for now things have changed. I also bought 3 goats for KES 9000.00. Thereafter, I used the remaining amount in finalizing the construction project of my house which I had started using the first transfer. As at now I am in a good spacious house not as before."

Mwenda received a $484 initial payment.
"When I withdrew the money, the first thing I did is, I took KES 2000.00 and paid school fees for my primary school grandchildren who are the children of my helper. This was a sign of gratitude to the helper. Thereafter, I bought iron sheets, ridges, nails and poles for KES 31000.00. These materials are for building a new house. I took this step because the house I am in is very small and it serves as a kitchen and store too thus it is usually hot and smoky hence not friendly to sleep in it. I also kept KES 10000.00 for the family upkeep to carter for any eventuality that may arise. Having done that, I bought 3 goats for KES 8000.00 and some clothes for my family at a cost of KES 4000.00. For the help I received from my helper, I saw it being human to appreciate and I gave him KES 4000.00."

"The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving the transfers is completion of a shop building project which I had started building April last year but had stalled when I ran out of resources.Through the transfers, I also have adequate food for family which wouldn't be possible to get before and now my kids have grown healthier and happier.I normally rely on goat broking business and casual labor in order to sustain my family."

"My first transfer will go into paying school fees for my children. This is 1,200 KES. I have 4 children in school and I have been struggling a lot to pay for them school fees. As we speak, my daughter who is in secondary school is at home because of fees arrears amounting to 4,000 KES. My future plans are investing in goat farming and building a house."

"The short rains in December supressed the drought that was threatening our lives and that of livestock. This brought a lot of joy to me. We now have water in the water pans and we can get vegetables for food in the farms. My two goats are also doing well."

"Being old and aged, the only source of income I can venture into is livestock keeping. I have desired to start this project but due to financial instability, it has never been possible. With this cash grant, I am intending to spend my money on buying some goats that will act as my store of wealth. The other transfers will help me to get my very basic needs like food."

"I was a renowned livestock farmer in this community. I was a proud owner of above 40 goats. In 2021, a severe drought killed all of them. None remained due to water and pasture scarcity. I was depressed. Imagine losing all your source of income. My intention with these funds is to jumpstart my occupation. I will buy 5 goats at 3,000 KES each. The goats will gradually increase in number and I will regain from the losses I incurred."

"My greatest desire is to repair the roof of my house which was temporarily made. On windy days, some iron sheets are blown away which is very risky to me and my neighbors too. My efforts to repair it has been in vain due to financial constraint and with this cash grant, I am so optimistic about realizing my dream. I intend to spend my monthly transfers in buying strong poles and nails to ensure it is made permanent. To ensure this is done, I only need to accumulate 20000 KES of my transfers. The other transfers will aid in venturing to livestock (goats) keeping as well as supporting me on very basic needs like food. Thus, this is generally what receiving this money means to me."

"At my age, I cannot work nor can I do a business. This forced my son to resume all the responsibilities of taking care of me. Sometimes I see him struggle to support my needs and this sadness my heart since he also has his family to take care of. My wish has always been to keep livestock that can be sold whenever there is a financial need in the family. Receiving this transfer will make the wish come true because I will use my money to start buying goats every month that can act as support whenever there is a financial crisis in the family."

"Taking care of animals has always been my passion, however, lack of money made me not acquire the livestock. I would wish to spend my transfers specifically on buying goats and use a small amount of it on food. Receiving these transfers means I will be able to do what I love which is taking care of livestock hence achieving my dream and it will also put me in a position where I will be able to support myself and stop depending on my brother."
