"The new goal for my life for the next four months is to buy a water tank with a capacity of 3000 liters. I will save the transfers through table banking. Moreover, I will get further funds to finance the project from the sale of one of my goats. I chose to prioritize on buying the water tank because I have been spending lots of money to hire some individuals who fetch water for us from a nearby river. Due to my advanced age, I am no longer strong enough to carry water on my back like before. Still, the river water tends to be unclean and less safe for consumption. Hence, I intend to collect rainwater for consumption and other uses in the household."

"I spent my second transfer on buying sand, gravel, and cement which I used to cement my old house. Since my first wife passed on, I converted that house to be exclusively used by my children because going to spend at my neighbors' home was so hectic to them. I also spent the second transfer to build a new house for my second wife who at first was spending in my old house because she did not have her own. Lastly, I used the remaining transfer to buy maize and watermelon seeds. Although, there was inadequate rain during the last season, I was able to obtain a good harvest from my maize plantation."

"Receiving this money means I will be able to provide food, education and other family basic needs with much ease. I will buy oxen and an ox plough to help in farming so that I am able to cover a larger portion of land in less time. I will also buy a dairy cow so I can sell the surplus milk and increase the family income. I will then save the rest of the cash in table banking. 3 years ago my group was able to start an Mpesa shop, so now with more funds we can start a bigger project that will help us sustain our families. We plan to do vegetable farming in large scale using water pans. "

"My life is currently different from how it was four months ago because am now feeling like a boss. I have leased some piece of land and planted maize and beans. Consequently, I am using the transfers from GiveDirectly on hiring some individuals to weed them. Hence, I am assuming the role of a supervisor, and thus enjoy some relief from the previous tedious work of weeding. Moreover, we are residing in a new better house - an iron-roofed house. Consequently, we collect rainwater for consumption unlike before when we used to fetch water from a nearby river. I have a new house."
